Ever green clematis along with several normal clematises growing through.

I tend to think montana although quick growing is a bit plain and looks scraggy in the winter.

John, I wasn't suggesting that you should screen out the neighbours, rather their houses. :D

If you have ever been to Disneyworld and though about it, the best rides/attractions are the ones where you are totally immersed in make-believe. Where, in every direction all you can see is pure escapism. If the ride went through the car park, and parts of an industrial estate, to my mind it would be greatly diminished.

I think a garden should be the same. My ideal would be a hideaway where you were totally immersed in garden, without any view of neighbouring houses, the road, or even your own parked car. That's really what the traditional long border backed by high hedges does. Hence my view of the need for height.

Yes I have a montana in another area. It's just coming into bud again. Really though for this area we aren't too bothered about winter. It's a picnic area and Mrs S. would object to sitting out there dressed in faux weasel drinking hot toddies and mulled claret. :D

A small update. The borders are now dug and although there is still hard landscaping to do, mainly with that rear boundary' even before the trellis goes in (roofing lats) I can start to put the odd plant in. And knowing me they will be very odd. [IMG]

Thanks Walnut. The feature plants for the pots are already in the g.house - 4 different puyas. (Everyone knows I like weird). Can't decide what pots though. B lady wants fancy ones but I would tend to go for fairly plain terracotta. Pots with zig-zags and flowers make my eyes go funny after a litre. [IMG] [IMG]

We are still going. Not ready for plants in view of the forecast but I'm ready for a BBQ (Why do they always deliver Friday at 6 p.m.?)

Why John me thinks you're a little bit too posh for me. I do believe one of these makes a really good barbeque and they're really cheap too this one only cost me £1.....bit of a b*gger to get in the car though! :D Hel.xxx.
