Last report for a while as the hard landscaping, except for oiling and painting, is complete and stage 4 - the planting - has started and you can't hurry that as we all know.

The first of these 3 pictures is the same view as the first picture posted on this thread.

The second one is that view towards the sea which had the falling down ,horizontal log fence.

The new fence is the maximum height of 2 metres that I'm allowed in this area without having to go through planning. I couldn't wait for 2 years for permission and once the climbers grow up it, it should give us the privacy we want for our wild orgies, which we have applied for planning permission for. But as the council CEO is invited, I reckon permission will be granted about a week next Thursday.

    And finally -

Although it doesn't look much yet, the planting has started below the older fence. They are all small yet but in this picture we have a pot bound cordy, should recover soon, a C Nelly Moser, a large helebore a small stripy phormium and a passion flower. In the pot on the deck is a red gooseberry waiting to go in the fruit bush area That's just in case Boss lady wants more kids. Should be all about right in time for my wake. [IMG]

Looking good John [IMG] [IMG] Put up some nice honeysuckle and clematis Montana and you will soon hide the wood [IMG]

Are you going to dig any Manure into that border? because if you havn't got your own compost supply then I can reccomend the J Arthur Bowers blended farm manure that you can get from places like B&Q thts if the budget can stretch that far now that you are having to live on your pension [IMG] :D

PS,I would also recommend some bags of top soil as well because mixed in with the manure it will finish off the bed real nice, but then that is only a blondes idea,Mrs John might have other ideas for you to follow as she is the boss [IMG]

Thanks for your suggestions Kandy. I have dug loads of peat in, some perlite and some sharp sand because our soil is very good down to about 15 inches but then becomes clay. I also have some of that sterilised pong-free manure to dig in but I got it from Reighton Nurseries because it's about two thirds the price of B & Q. I've put in one honeysuckle which at the moment is looking like it needs a shot of plant penicillin but might survive.

A Daisylirion wheelerii and a small eucalyptus tree have just arrived in the post plus another type of Passiflora so I shall now have fun deciding where Mrs S would like me to put them. (No - not there - I'm in favour at the moment.) Perhaps it will just be easier to ask? [IMG] :D
