What a lovely thread. For me, it's mock orange. The smell instantly reminds me of childhood holidays to Greece, we used to stay by orange groves.

That's the strangest thing, Choisya usually flowers late winter-early Spring here (this year was an exception), but we don't get much scent. I don't link plant scents with memories that I know of, but I love Jasmine. The one scent, or mix of scent I get is that Mediterranean scent you get as you get off the plane on holiday; a mix of Cistus, Pine, Citrus and broom - so I have recreated that in my garden... unfortunately no heat yet to test it.

Lindsay, we bought the cottage we live in 16 years ago because it is in the middle of the orange groves ... and we bought it because I said I had to live there. We do and the scent is heavenly and perfumes the house as the type of orange around us is Encore which is ever-fruiting, ie, blooms, green and orange oranges all year round.

I am the house at the top right ... all those 'round things' are orange trees.

      Wow Victoria, that looks amazing!
The next GC meet up should definitely be at your house
      I can almost smell it...

Lindsay, it's like living in Heaven, that's only a smidgen of what is around us ... and there is always an open invitation to GC members who visit Algarve, always has been. :)

You might want to visit Cliff and Bonnie whilst you are here also as they are about 30 minutes away ... :heehee:

Citrus blooms are definitely wonderful.. my potted Lemon 'tree' gives out the most wonderful scent in Spring-Summer (in fact it just flowers all season long), it's flowering now, despite the recent cold... it really does fill the garden though.

what I like of the lemon tree that, even as a "newborn" you can stroke a leaf between your fingers and it releases a citrus scent on them. So even if you have a minute leaf, you can be sure it is a lemon tree.

Still played? You must be joking, any head teacher who wishes to avoid being sued has banned it long since. Ditto sliding on the ice. Elf and Safety strikes again.

I love the sharp, rank smell of elder leaves, reminds me of climbing trees in my childhood.

Also the heavy smell of the tropics, exotic floral scents underpinned by a whiff of decaying fruit!
