Dai - I meant that if independence doesn't turn out to be spectacularly successful, I hope that there won't turn out to be a 'special relationship' which means that England, Wales and N. Ireland will be expected to bail the Scots out. I mean no ill will; just that there has to be a clean break.

If Scotland ditches the Queen, I wonder what will happen to Balmoral?

But a dragon would look cool on a flag, whereas a leek or a daff, well, just wouldn't. :heehee:

I agree with you Clare, they are either part of the UK or they are on their own. Do they have an army, navy or airforce? No. They will be in deep kaka.:dbgrtmb:

I seem to remember reading somewhere or other that Welshman Henry VII flew a flag bearing the DDraig Goch. It's been entwined with the English throne for a long time.

The queen is Scottish descendent, so I don't see why they shouldn't keep our queen as head of state, unless of course they want to trace there original royal ancestry and bring someone forward from that to rule.

Remember, James VI of Scotland became James I of England after the departure of Elizabeth I. Then the union followed.

We should also remember that England took away Scotland's independence in the first place. So yes it is Englands fault! :)

But Zig is right, Sheal. Scotland needed the union after the disastrous failure of the Darien scheme. I'm not sure it's entirely correct to say that we 'took away' Scottish independence. It's difficult to see how Scotland would have survived at all as a separate entity.

Yes, they came to us. It wasn't a hostile takeover. Mind you, we did some horrendous things to them afterwards (By "we" I mean the upper classes who also did horrendous things to the English too)

The logical thing would have been that Wales, scotland and england be ONE country. However, as you people to the north and east of the one true country refused to speak Welsh then this argument was bound to arise.:heehee::heehee::dbgrtmb:

Some of us are trying, Dai. (I know, very trying.) The problem is that at some time in the distant past all you Welshies got together and deliberately concocted a language that no English person could ever learn.

England 'pummeled' Scotland for hundreds of years and it became so weak it's hardly surprising Scotland and the Darien scheme failed. It had to be dependant on England, having no choice, which is what England wanted, wasn't it?

And most of my lot didn't even arrive in England until the nineteenth century. So don't blame me. :D
