Jack, the Seahorse is the only animal that the male gives birth, as per one of my videos, the female deposits eggs into the males pouch, they get fertilized and then he gives birth to live young.

I have the Seahorse setup and a mixed reef as well, the reef is approx. 650 litres total volume inc sump.

Make sure if you go down the Seahorse route that you get some tank bred specimens, as they are less likely to be carrying anything ie worms and diseases

I see you have lr in your tank can that not carry parasites etc. I'm looking at that riff system ceramics at mo. my mates got a metre cube with all ceramics and it looks the dogs danglies. My local lfs stocks tmc tank bred reidis so shouldn't be a problem their

The only thing with ceramics in general is that they need to be run for a while to get rid of phos levels etc

On a Reef forum (UR... You may know it), there are quite a few people that have removed them and gone back to LR.

LR can obviously have critters in it, but if you monitor the lr in QT for around 6 weeks, you should know whether it is okay or not by then.

Another trick would be to buy 'Ocean Rock', which is LR that is dead and has been cured properly so is completey neutral, once you add that, add new sand and a cup of sand out of someones tank or a bag of Live Sand that will seed the tank nicely.

I could talk for hours on the reef subject :)
