See the annual Perseid meteor shower 12th Aug

    Thats good FS, I never saw a single one. Ah well theres always next year. Sometimes you get lucky and see the occaisonal one anyway, I don't know if there is another meteor shower in December, keep checking back here on the forum, walnut often posts when there is something good to see.

    The next meteor shower is the Orionids on October 21, 2009.

    Freedom meteors are entering the earths atmosphere at a rate of about 100million a day the average size is about 0.0005"dia and most cannot be seen,the earth passes through about 10 well known meteor showers in its annual cycle around the sun just having passed through a significant shower the Perseids,as Woo points out there are some more significant ones on the way but on any dark moonless clear night away from street lights if you lay on your back and scanned the sky you would see about 10 per hour on average.The names of the showers are usually the area of sky they radiate from so a good sky map will show you the constellations and were to look.
