I am still waiting on it warming up enough so I can sow in the cold frame.

My Giant Mongolian Sunflower seeds have germinated. First leaves showed up on Sunday and last night I brought the pots down into a cooler place. Something was poking out....

With a root like this in two days I believe I might be in trouble with the plants

I still have spare seeds if direct sowing later on looks like a better option :) And some sturdy hoops to screw on the garage roof sideboard and 12m of strong rope. It'll be fine. :heehee:

It's probably a good idea to wait a couple of weeks more as March is a very fickle month & the weather can change at any moment.

I never knew there were Sunflowers up to 15ft tall before! some years ago I won a prize for the tallest Sunflower on the allotments field where I had a plot. It was about 10ft tall - a dwarf alongside yours! looking forward to seeing some photos when they flower!

On Thursday March 17th I took lots of cuttings of my Geraniums & Pelargoniums. I put them individually in small pots which I later placed inside the mini-greenhouse on the balcony. 15 pots fit in a standard seedtray & I filled up 3 of them!

I sowed some tomato 4 week ago they were up in a few days. Some others were Verb from B&Q their own brand.they have not worked they were sown 12 days ago . Treated exactly the same my husband called in to be told they do not refund on seed As they can be deteriating after being in the pkt for a while.!

I'm now looking for an email
But other than that the Morning Glory I had sown from value seed were almost through, I grow these next to tomatoes to twine through.

some verbascum and Digitalis , ornamental grass ,verbena to germinate they were sown Monday.

It depends on how long ago you bought the seeds and the date on the pack (they're usually all dated).

It sounds to me that they are in contravention of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 where they should be 'Fit For Purpose', 'As Described' or 'Satisfactory Quality'. Unless you have had them a long time they certainly seem to not be 'Fit For Purpose' and especially not of 'Satisfactory Quality' as this includes 'durability' and I'm sure they don't say 'plant them now' so would not be 'As Described'.
Don't let them get away with it :paladin:

If you bought them in the last year (after sowing time for 2021) I would phone again and quote the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Their comment that they deteriorate is not a good defence as they shouldn't be selling seeds that do not survive to the next sowing time.

Loads of seeds to sow this weekend, if I can find them all, but cucumbers, melons, ipomoea, leeks, brassicas, lupins are all there; more details later.
Currently in the greenhouse, have pansies, violas, aquilegia (several species), Kniphofia caulescens, Impatiens balfourii, several different alpine poppies and Campanulata lactiflora all germinating and in the house Fuchsia boliviana and F vulcanica. Not sure where this lot is going to go.

Reasons why I love Premierseedsdirect... I complained about pink Cosmos that failed to germinate unlike their white sisters, just for feedback purposes. I didn't claim my financial loss of 83p

Yes I shall certainly be contacting them. I couldn't find a guarantee on the pkt. I bought them in late Feb of this year. They should have been OK until next ýears sowing. I'd boughtvthem incase I couldn't get my usual ones from the value shops .

Can't say I've ever had much trouble with tomato seed but over the years I've had lots of seed not germinate, for various reasons.
Tomato seed usually stays viable for a number of years, if stored reasonably well, I've grown plants for 5 or 6 years from the same packet in the past.
Did you sow the whole packet.

The trouble with seeds is you can do so much wrong yourself (not for one minute saying you did) but if I sowed seeds in clay, overwatered them and left them in cold conditions you wouldn't expect B&Q to refund me when they didn't germinate.

I agree, but up to a point.
I'm pretty sure that over the years I have been sold dead seed, but mostly of obscure plants that I don't consider mainstream stuff.
In those cases I think some companies package up old seed often years old and sell it as fresh, usually with the most complicated of sowing obstructions so as to make you think its your fault when they don't germinate after waiting 3 years.
That said some do take a couple of years to germinate.
But I wouldn't give up on tomato seed after 2 weeks.
