I agree, they are pretty cold tolerent but they do need a good hot long summer to perform properly.
No I 've not seen 'summer chocolate' it sound delicious, probably worth growing for the leaves alone.
I would assume its a variety and probably doesn't come true from seed.

Yep I've had a look, that 'Ernest Wilson' variety looks interesting.
I'm going to start a new thread, I want to know if anyone can ID a small tree, very similar to albizzia. Might have to wait till tomorrow now though, see what I can do. ;)

I grew some Albizia Julibrissin from seed. They are in the garden and growing slowly, the biggest is about a foot after 3 years.

In France last year I saw shrubs with similar leaves, they had seed pods like twisted pea pods so I grabbed a few. They have been growing in the greenhouse all winter and are looking good. I don't know what they are, or what the flowers will be like.

Your plants with the twisted seed pods sound like Caesalpinia Gillesii (Poinciana/Barbados Pride)I have some from Tenerife, last years seed 12in high and some three year old 4 foot high with flower buds, will post when in flower. Caesalpinia Gillesii leaves to me have a sort of nutty smell when bruised which separates them from any other plant. [IMG]

I googled that, and leaves are similar, but not the same. Nice flowers though.

I don't know what the flowers are like on mine as they had finished when I was there in July.

Yesterday I've sown some morning glory - black velvet, and echiums!! After seeing Pete2255's pics, I had to! Some normal ones and some dwarf ones, just since I got some free with Garden News last year! And also want to test the new avatar!!

Yes . It all goes wrong when I click "Select this Avatar" after i've set the URL ... still think it is a pc problem. The "error on page" that I get then would also appear now if I try to use preview post. [IMG] :( [IMG]
