I presume you know Gloxinias like saintpaulias can't tolerate water on the leaves, you may know this already [IMG]

Re mushroom compost, ridiculously large quantities of...
Kind neighbour said he was going to order a trailer-full if we'd like half shares??? When we saw the trailer, husband promtply decided to take at least 2 hours over returning elderly aunt to her nursing home, 40 miles away - and I can't blame him!! It took us 2 days to get down to the garden, and I was brushing and jet-hosing all day yesterday to get the monoblock back to near-normal colours!! But it'll do the garden good! And yes, TLG - I'll def be bagging up for customers, that's for sure!! I have a few targets in mind!! Am using Frogesque's idea of using cement mixer to mix up soil, sand and compost to put into the garden! TA, Frogesque!!

Thanks strongylodon, I wasn't aware of that although I tend to treat all corms the same as cyclamen and avoid getting the crown wet so I only water around the pot perimiter a little at a time.

Past experience has taught me to keep water off of Gloxinias and out of direct sunlight too. They are worth persevering with even if you are not altogether successful the first time. If you can get the corms or seed, Smithiantha, a related Gesneriad species is worth a go. [IMG]

As I'm working rather behind you, Strongy, being that much further north, I'm tending to follow in your footsteps - hope you don't mind!! I've been sowing loads of cultivars of Ageratum in between going out to work! Re gloxinias - yes - I've found that anything with that sort of leaf doesn't like water on it. Don't know why that should be, but if it's a bit hairy, it doesn't like the water!

P.S. my lotus fire vine plugs arrived today, along with various verbenas, and yet more busy lizzie mini-plugs - HELP!! I'm running out of space, and desperately need a cold frame!! Husband's next project! I'm to busy now to have time to even consider making things myself, not to mention rather fatigued when I get in at the end of the day! Not like some supervisors who get others to do the real work....
