Thanks for that Pete, I hope so, the flowers are unusual to say the least.

Sorry Dave W didn't see your post till now.
The potato has taken about three weeks at 25C, seems a bit slow to me, got the feeling they need really hot conditions.

i collected some sunflower seeds from a huge flowerhead while on holiday in France last year.

I planted them at the weekend in a propegator. It was only £2.99 and consists of small pods of compost which was dry. When watered they expanded and I was able to push a seed into the top of each one.

Anyway - it's only been a few days and they are sprouting already!!!

Just make sure you don't keep them too warm as they will bolt and become thin and top heavy, they need to form a strong stem to keep them upright. [IMG]

Tall yellow flower - looks good with vebina bodneriensis about same height. seeds cost me a fortune and I don't really do seeds but decided to have a go as I could not find plants.

do you think trying some heat underneath them would help? or am I just impatient?

I reconise that description from Chiltern seeds catalogue.
Sounds interesting, all the way from Japan, shouldn't need heat I wouldn't have thought, but who knows just a little might help.

Quite a few of these "not so well known" seeds take a while to germinate, in some cases I think thats why they are "no so well known".
Dont give up yet, I'll bring round some scaffolding. :D

Sorry Waco, never grown them - however I'm with Pete, don't give up yet. I sowed four different type of seeds about three weeks ago in a heated greenhouse. One (Pete's) germinated quickly and today I was potting them up. The other three are only just showing.

I had one seed some years ago - that sat and sulked for a year before germinating. That was a Sesban - but when it did twas worth all the patience.

I am, and it's making typing a bit difficult! :D RHS encyclopaedia only says it self-seeds freely! They only mention P.triloba - no other names mentioned.
