I have a couple of climbing roses - can you take cuttings from them? I always thought they were grafted on root stock.

How do you package stuff for the mail - is it difficult? Although we have managed to sell most of the cuttings he did - some are now big plants and hope to sell them in the next few weeks.

I bought 10 large plug plants of Heuchera, and the seller sent them to me in like a polystyrene casing and then he cellotaped them together in bunches of 5, and they came in great condition!

It didn't weigh much, either, which keeps down postage cost.

a few tips about selling plants (or most things) on ebay:

ship them with 'next day signed for delivery' and make mention in your advert that you prefer to ship this way, hence the higher shipping cost ... as then you know that the next day they will recieve them in good order

if you don't use 'signed for', you can be taken for a ride .... the buyer may very well receive them, then state that he never, and then you will have to refund in full (including the shipping cost) .... if you use a cheaper slower delivery, the plants may be in a dark box for 3 days and you may get a negative feedback from a fussy buyer when he opens the box and the plants are 'limp' and dehydrated

recently, most plants I have bought on ebay were removed from the pots, and the roots were washed, all soil carefully removed and roots wrapped in damp newspaper, then the roots were clingwrapped ... saves you on the shipping cost as it's a lot lighter.... also include a note stating that the plants should be planted ASAP

only ship plants on a monday, tuesday or wednesday and make sure there are no holidays on the thursday and friday, and state in your advert that you only despatch on these days

always schedule your items to end on either a sunday, monday or tuesday night at 21h00 ... my experience has shown that you get more money for the items as everyone is home at that time and have access to their pc's ... many people bid in the last minute, so if the listing ends at 17h00, they may be travelling home after work

when you list an item, choose an old listing that had a lot of people watching the item, then hit the relist button and edit the advert with the new photos/description ....

everyone who had the item on their watchlist will receive an email saying that the item was relisted (even though it is not the same item) .... gives you a headstart to the 'target market',

make sure that someone is at their home to sign for/recieve the plants, if there is no-one at home, rather ship the item to the buyer's place of work

add a slip of paper/note thanking the buyer, and stating that they will receive a 10% discount on their next purchase .... you will be amazed ... it actually works, and you get repeat customers

there's loads more 'tips and tricks' to ebay, (especially using ebay pulse to find the 'hot' keywords to use in the title)

but hopefully these few tips may get you better prices ... good luck!

that is very useful. I sold craft stuff on Ebay years ago and used to have a shop selling it too, so have had a little bit of experience - but was always easy to post, and Ebay has moved on a lot since then

We had a delivery of pansies last week - and he has potted them all up, they are growing much bigger already. I chose 70 rather than 160 as I am not convinced I could shift that many all of the same plant. The market stall has limited customers :(

It would be great if we had people go by the house but we are in a cul de sac. I do plan to take some photos of some patio pots he has just planted and put them on our Ampthill forum to see if anyone might be interested as I could deliver them.
