So, should we lock them all up, but for a different amount of time? Regards the "as you know" bit, no I don't have any knowledge of such.

Which bit are you referring to? I've already stated that anyone (and I do mean anyone) carrying a weapon should be locked up for a considerable period. If you are referring to e-scooter/e-bikes, they get seized (or should be) and that is a points on licence thing. Of course, if you use one to kill, that is a different thing entirely.

I'm referring to both the issues you raised.
So I gather you want those with a weapon locked up - how long?
Those on e-Scooters , let off - sorry, points on their licence they may or may not have?
Just to be very clear, I would lock both types up, if we had the prisons, with someone sensible, like yourself, to educate them.

I would be harsh on weapon carrying - minimum 10 years for carrying; currently, there is little deterrent for that as far as I am concerned.

Not so sure I would lock up e-scooter users if I am honest, as there are many who use them (or at least around here there is) for getting to work, in the belief they are somehow helping the planet etc etc. If they are used for muggings etc, then yes I would also lock them up (not sure how long, but tempted to say 5 years, with additional for the actual crime of theft or mugging); no issue with educating them whilst they are on a custodial sentence, but in my opinion we need to stop being soft on anything relating to violence or weaponry.

So, Reform candidates have been suggesting that the army could target small boats crossing the Channel, and yet some supposedly intelligent people are going to vote for them.
              I despair.

Adolescent males roaming in packs carrying weapons is part of human hunter-gatherer DNA. You'll never eliminate it, especially in a society where belonging and safety can be hard to come by in other more "civilised" ways. If you want to reduce it, young people need opportunities and pathways to get on in life, plus stable male influences in the home environment. If you have no hope, you have nothing to lose. Add that to an immature brain, with poorly developed frontal lobes so instinct tends to override logic and restraint, and throw in some further adling through substance abuse (or just "use" depending on your view point) and it's a wonder youth crime is not even more prevalent than it is.

My understanding is that it was campaigners rather than candidates?

The same can be said of other parties. The Lib Dem candidate in my area has attempted to become and MP as a Conservative and Brexit Party. The Labour candidate in Clacton itself also made comments that were racist (he apologised) - - sadly, when you are going to have national campaigns with volunteers and candidates from various backgrounds, you are always going to trawl up some dregs. Indeed, the aim of getting into politics seems to have the ability to pull in a lot of dross - the comment of the whole thing so far, for me, has to be the gentleman that asked Sunak and Stamer if they were really the best that the UK could do.

The same can be said of the US (take a look at the footage of the Trump/Biden debate that happened overnight... if that pair are the best that the entirety of the US can come up with, no wonder the world is in a mess.
