Agreed. I would extend that to being alert for it in anyone we know.

That isn't really anything new - there has been distribution of immigrants going on for years.

I've got an old Jag currently up on axle stands... I'll sell you it cheap. It may, or may not, be slightly incontinent.

I really can't agree with the 3 main parties, they are, IMO full of lies, deceit & BS. So I won't vote.

Add that to public amenities becoming scarcer and scarcer, there isn't the space as most land has been sold off to private developers, leaving the less fortunate tightly packed into smaller and smaller areas. More and more places are off limits or extortionately expensive to visit.

If you can see opportunities around you increasingly out of reach because you're unfortunate enough not to have land or family connections, why wouldn't you turn to crime? And why would you feel any sense of social obligation when the government is so corrupt and have behaved so appallingly and you know full well they'd take advantage in your situation if they could get away with it?

If you want to own a home and have some level of security, you'll likely have to move away to somewhere you don't know anyone. Unless you win the lottery. Without that security, where's the incentive to stick to the law?

I think there's also the sense that there are a lot of unknowns, I've lived in small communities and while there was certainly trouble, anonymity does bring out the worst in people and weapons carrying certainly wasn't as common. Carrying weapons is about unknown and unfamiliar threats, if things and people are more familiar and predictable then I'll guess carrying weapons would become less common.

Or we could allow people to carry pepper spray, unpleasant but better than being stabbed (and you dont need to make physical contact).

Agree with much of what you say, @Erigeron, though I personally wouldn't want pepper spray easily at hand.

I think the concept of "fair share" of migrants is interesting. It implies residents are somehow not pulling their weight, when actually the argument should also balance what is "fair" for local people. It is not the one-sided equation it is presented as. If migrants have rights, so do nationals. If that was part of the discussion, there would be less hostility to imposed quotas, IMV.

So if many of us agree those traits or practices are not to be tolerated the issue seems to be whether we recognise them in what the political parties stand for.

I do recognise some of these things in both the Conservatives & Reform, and that they are encouraging them in the public for political gain, but others don’t or excuse them. I think @amancalledgeorge ‘s post was very well said.

              .

Even then, can any of those parties fulfil that promise.

As gardeners, you will all have been lead to believe that the sale of retail peat based compost was to be banned by 2024. The legislation, if passed, was the ban would come in to force from the 1st January 2025. The problem is, the government planted a seed and then watched it grow with misinformation by the media and other organisations to the public that the ban would come in to force the beginning of 2024. The government could never implement the ban due to the internal marketing act that all home nations signed prior to leaving the EU. Peat based compost manufactured and processed in Ireland, Scotland and Wales, or imported in to these nations from anywhere in the world can still be sold lawfully to any retailer in England. The retail ban would only apply to retailers based in England and as the other home nations had no phasing out of peat, then the internal marketing act kicks in. This information is on the government website, yet rarely becomes public as certain organisations still want you to believe it's going to be illegal.

The EU said that by the 15th December 2023 glyphosate would be banned across the EU, has it, no. In November 2023 the European Commission decided to allow the EU to continue to use the herbicide for 10 more years as there was no overall majority for the ban. France has decided to ban it, but they can not stop edible goods from other EU countries entering France where glyphosate has been used as they are within the EU, hence the protests from French farmers.

Even though the UK is not in the EU, we were also going to ban glyphosate as our farmers would also of been banned from selling edible goods within the EU. However, with the majority of the EU opposing the ban we also are allowing the continuation use of the product.

The reality is, some promises will never happen, but if it helps to get a majority to govern, then you could say fair play, while myself and probably many more has had enough.

It sort of makes me want to weep, the US has trump Vs biden and we have sunak Vs Starmer. Not a brilliant line up is it. I can't really decide which country has a worse decision

I think the US wins there, but not by much.

It's not "the party", it's about a dozen candidates out of over 600 that have been shown to hold racist views AFAIK. It's peculiar that you don't also question why their biggest donor, Zia Yusuf, is a Muslim. Perhaps he understands something fundamental about Reform that you've failed to? :) Why are all these other ethnic minorities also very passionate about Reform?
