Ronald Bilge seems more appropriate then Ronald Binge.
That was the Radio 4 Theme that used to jolt me awake at 0530 hrs I couldn't stand that cacophonous medley.

The "far-right" rhetoric also doesn't really apply here; of course, there will always be a fringe/hard element to both sides politically and those fringes will also be attracted to support parties that are nearer the centre (eg BNP on the right, Momentum on the left), their support does not define a party. Politically, over quite a long time, society has shifted increasingly toward the left, so what I believe we are seeing is the centre re-establishing itself. This is not extremists, although there will be some who will see them as such... however, if you are yourself at an extreme, and the centre moves away from you even just a little, you will see those in the middle as being at the other extreme. ;)

Actually, I think it was a reference to a judge's ruling yesterday that presidents are pretty much immune from prosecution whatever they do and the example given was presidents could order murders and not be held accountable. It's all connected to whether Trump can be tried for the 6 Jan insurrection, either in or out of power.

Either way, it was a really stupid thing to post, given the world we currently live in. Of all people, he should be abundantly aware of how things can be construed in different ways and are likely to go viral - and that is before we get to the aforementioned normalisation of violence against MP's/politicians.

Oh, I wasn't defending it. I was putting it in the context of the day's events.

I do think whoever is holding Biden up from behind the scenes has true contempt for the American people. Neither man is suitable for, or capable of, doing the job in any sort of competent, measured manner.

What amazes me more than anything is that the American people are putting up with it - if that were the UK, I am fairly certain there would be protests in the streets.

When we first moved in here we had gas lighting. We eventually removed the last of the gas lights (in the kitchen and over the cooker) when we, more or less, finished renovating the place. I've regretted removing the gas light over the cooker as we still get lots of power cuts (27 last year).

Pre Monty Python we had the 'At Last The 1948 Show'.

I have a moan about the BBC this morning for a silly inaccuracy. At 6 a.m. on BBC1 they were going to discuss the election and said "Only 48 hours to go before the election". Polling stations don't open until 7 a.m. so it was 49 hours. :heehee:

If both sides united in protest, maybe they could get something done. But the media and politicians have done so much to divide people, deliberately, precisely so they do not pull together. Plus the police and military would be heavy-handed, in the name of law and order. And those invested in keeping the status quo would send in agitators to get violence going. It's why uprisings rarely succeed.

Dead simple way to do it in this country - everyone stop paying council tax and/or have a general strike. I'd give it a week or less before something happened to effect change.

I think we are forgetting there were a fair few candidates at the start of the American elections and these are the two they have chosen.
It seems a better system than ours in theory but obviously doesn't work if you just end up with 2 that they have.

I think that says a lot more about the money and power behind politics (the movers and shakers, I believe they are called) as well as the state of the overall pool of talent that wants to get involved in politics.

The US election effort is wholly dictated by funding and backroom deals. I don't think either US or UK systems are up to much currently, like many things they simply have not adapted to changing population and concerns
