Water quality was worse years ago, when industry used the rivers, you cant have more population without more sewage , population also messes up the housing market and we are lucky to have food banks now, they never existed before:stirpot::biggrin:.

We are not lucky to need food banks though, even if having them helps people.

The water companies have played fast and loose with our money, borrowing to pay dividends rather than improve infrastructure, leaving us in debt and without the improvements necessarily.

Just watched Starmer's speech. Was quite moved, and that's a first as I normally find him very dull to listen to. He did look genuinely happy. Not smug, not entitled, just happy.

If they followed the 30p Lee recipes, they wouldn't need the food bank

Nicky Campbell interviewed the Scottish head of Labour and asked him if he sympathised with the SNP over the results. Now, he would never have asked that qu if things had gone the other way.

In fairness to 30p Lee, he wasn't entirely wrong - I know people that haven't a clue how to cook, at all.. not even following a recipe. I come from the generation where a chicken does at least two days (if not three, in a curry!) with the carcass etc used to make a stock that then goes on to make a soup that lasts two or three days and is packed with veg. Maybe not 30p a portion, but not exactly expensive either.

Possibly not - STV are the worst for fawning over the SNP in Scotland, so if the BBC are asking questions like that, goodness knows what STV will be asking

Agree entirely, and I did say that the 30p figure was unrealistic - however, the point stands that there are many nowadays (aye, and not all that much younger than me either) that believe a meal consists of something frozen or something from a packet heated up and not something planned or cooked fresh.

When I was growing up, that was the norm - you ate what you were given too, none of this "I don't fancy that" routine. Your belly was full (usually soup or stew, because it was cheap) and it kept you warm.

When Starmer & his wife were on their way back to Downing Street they detoured into a courtyard, got out of the car and disappeared. Then a few minutes later, got back into the car and completed the journey. The BBC were speculating as to why, but none of them suggested the obvious reason - someone needed the loo!

I've just made a chicken casserole for twelve people for tomorrow. Total cost less than £1 per head - not counting the cost of the gas. I didn't even have to use my ration book! :heehee:

I notice the BBC spent more time showing us the hecklers that disrupted Farage's speech than they did the speech.
They then showed it again but without any of the speech.

Then there is some really awful person from the Guardian saying he's going to be a trouble maker, she was obviously bias because she also had a go at the Tories.

Someone should have reminded her that 4 million voted Reform, but obviously the establishment are doing their best to ignore that fact.

Wouldn't surprise me if the hecklers were from the BBC or Guardian, or one of their shell companies "contractors"
