When the photos came out of the King and Starmer, I found I was much more interested in the flower arrangements than anything else. Pale blue delphiniums, pale pink hydrangea, and a bright orange lily type flower.

Or it will come back to haunt them, probably sooner rather than later.

Mary Kenny wrote an article about Marine Le Pen after the first round of the French election in 2017, the following she wrote could well happen with the Reform party.

Le Pen won't win the second round tomorrow, but in the immortal words of one of our own political figures, she's not going away, you know. Neither is her movement.

            I noticed that!

I think the argument that only a third of people voted for Labour so the rest don't want them in power is too simplistic. If you had a Tory MP and the only way to oust them was voting Lib Dem, that doesn't mean you are unhappy with Labour. Tactic voting is a rational strategy.

I got worried when Starmer and Reeves went to Davos in January. Hobnobbing with the world's financial elite is bound to give you bad ideas. They are the reason wealth inequality has grown so much.

TBF, without them onside, Labour was unelectable, but it doesn't bode well for tax-payers or better sharing of available assets, such as housing, amongst ordinary people.

They have to work in the real world and the real world is run by the financial elite. Unfortunately, you can't ignore them. You have to find a way to work with and round them while nibbling away at them if you're going to achieve anything

As long as they don't saddle us with even more debts/charges like the PFI stuff did, we will be OK.

I give several hundred pounds a year to various charities and I put something in the local food bank box maybe twice a week. I’d far rather give the same amount in tax, to organised official money raising projects, providing I could be sure that the government of the day wasn’t going to whizz it up against a wall.

I'm wondering if a voluntary wealth tax might work. Say to people with a net worth over £10 million, would you like to contribute 1% of your wealth to assist others? Have a list of all those people. Give them a green tick if they do. That way there would be social pressure to join in and kudos for doing so. You could even give them a choice of what it would go on. List 5 areas, say youth services, elderly care, etc, and let them pick where their money would go.

A compulsory wealth tax would cause a huge ruckus. A voluntary one might raise almost as much money but without the fuss.

The public sector processes for such choices would tie them in knots
