@simone_in_wiltshire There are far more than 7 parties in Belgium - 17 at the last count - as they are replicated on linguistic lines - Flemish, French and German - and there are nuances beyond left and right which cover religious/Catholic parties and regionalism.

The big advantage of proportional representation is that there are rarely huge swings of policy and philosophy from one side to another as there have to be compromises to make a government. That period of 16 months with no new govt was longer than usual but daily life trucked calmly along as the civil service kept everything running and the politicians couldn't interfere with new taxes, rules and regs.

I was talking about coalition not the amount of parties @Obelix-Vendée
If you have a system that just runs without government then you can ask if it needs a government at all for inner matters.
Yes, of course, someone has to make progress. But if 7 parties can’t agree and need months to communicate and agree what progress can be made if the next election is coming up just 2 years later?

Indeed! But it's all lined up, I'd bet. The movement to and fro of employees between Big Tech and govs works for both sides. Influence and profit, profit and influence. A tangle that would take forever to unravel, assuming there were journalists prepared to take it on, which there are not.

Why the interest in what a government minister is wearing? Did you find the attire of all of the male MPs to your taste?

Starmer's tie was ... well ... an un-noteworthy example of ties! Should he have some highlights to hid his grey, do you reckon?

Rishi got a bit of ribbing for his attire, though usually on fit or cost grounds, not colour or style. And I'm sure we all have images of Boris out jogging in various very unfortunate clothing combos burned on our memories.

                      True.
I confess to have been guilty of suggesting that Starmer ditched the Brylcreem and gets glasses that don't make him look like a baddie in a 1960s boys' comic. I am familiar with the content as I used to swap them for the girls' comics. Beano Dandy Topper and Beezer were worth more in trade, though.

When you are in the public eye you must be prepared to take some stick, how you take it suggests what kind of person you really are.
Remember the old Labour bloke with the Donkey Jacket, and even Darling Harold and the raincoat scandal.

Apparently, it wasn't a donkey jacket - but it certainly looked like one. At least it kept him warm enough to hang around until the end of the proceedings.
