I didn't realise that shading could be needed either, Boghopper, but after I happened to mention that the temperature inside mine can reach 40C+, I was told to invest in some shading. My plants seem much happier now, looking less wilted and drying out slower :)

I've got two greenhouses, the main one is in the sun most of the day and definately needs shading. I grow tomatoes and peppers in this one and tend to use Cool-glass. I'm on the look out on Freecycle for some old bamboo blinds hoping that they might be a better than cool-glass, in that I could easily take them off when the weather is bad (like over the last couple of weeks).

My smaller greenhouse is shaded by some tall trees, I moved it there on purpose and grow cucumbers in there. Cucumbers like it a bit cooler and more humid than tomatoes. I don't need any shading on this smaller greenhouse, the trees do it for me.

Have you got a max/min thermometer Chris? It's surprising how quickly a greenhouse heats up when it's in the direct sun, and anything over 30 deg is not good, over 35 degrees and stuff stops growing and may die above 40 deg. An auto vent is essential. :dbgrtmb:
