Ok, it seems that something I said offended someone.

To clarify, I did NOT at any point criticise the child minders.

I will however openly criticise the government for branding single parents, who's only crime is to care for their kids, as work shy layabouts that are a burden on society.

I firmly believe that a single parent should have the right to choose to stay at home to look after their own child. Even if the local child minder is ace, the child minder is not the mum or dad and in my opinion the child minder is no substitute for the kid's own mum or dad. After all said and done, we don't have a communist society in Britain, so why should we suddenly start acting like one and penalising single parents who's only crime is to want to look after their own kids.

EDIT: I forgot to add that most child minders do an excellent job, and should be commended. However as many unskilled jobs pay minimum wage, childcare costs, even if they are reasonable, represent a very significant chunk of someone's weekly wages.

Well said. And while asking the government to take a pay cut, those same people could ask themselves if they genuinely believe that their taxes will be reduced or public services improved as a direct result of savings made by forcing single parents to work, or whether the government will simply blow the savings like they always do.

    No need for that YD.

Everyone should be able to give out an opinion, fine you may disagree but why start throwing insults.

    The basic problem is,
WHY DO WE HAVE SO MANY SINGLE MUMS?

That the rest of us are expected to prop up.

Why are there so many "families" of half brothers and sisters who dont know which bloke is their father?

These are the pain in the side of society, and dont say its all media hype, because we have loads of them queueing for their benefits around here.
Or is it now paid directly into their bank accounts to save them the effort.
Gives them more time to stand around smoking and talking at the school gates, while the rest of us work and pay our taxes, so that it can be given to the likes of these.

Dont blame the government, they can be blamed for most things, but not this one.

There are some people (like my former next door neighbours) who breed kids for the family allowance money (or whatever it is called these days). Then there are some people who were in a relationship and then things went bad and they split up (a couple of my freinds for example). You can't tar them all with the same brush. That part is the government's and the media's job.

I tend to think the ones your referring to hk are in the minority.

The ones I refer to are the scurge of this country and in the majority, kid wise anyway.

Never been no good, never will be no good, and their kids will be no good either.

    And thats NOT GOOD.

Why do couples split up so easily?

    These days.

If enough people believe that we can make it true.

If kids grow up thinking that that's people's opinion of them no matter what, then they have no reason to be fine upstanding citizens.

If a kid believes that no matter what they do, they are never going to be shown any respect, then why should they waste the effort and strive to be respected?
