Cats tend to get their fluid from the wet food they eat. Our cats have a constantly flowing fountain and a static bowl. The boss gives them fresh water every few hours and I can count on one hand the number of times I have seen them drinking.

My girl....tortoiseshell....usually has sachets of wet food, so I always rinse the sachet out and add this - about 1/4 sachet - of water to food bowl. She laps all water up first, then jelly, then meat. Sha spends more time than usual in the hedge in hot weather.

Since Sarafi died the other week  we have some new kids on the block.

We have always had visiting cats with, over the years, some of them having taken possession of our garden and us.

It now seems as though Ollie (moved in next door over a year ago) has laid claim to the garden
                P1550040.JPG

Yesterday another cat was looking around carefully and was rather nervous
                P1550038.JPG

I suspect that he also lives next door. When they moved in they said they had a house cat that never goes out but I've a feeling this is him. Ollie was sitting outside the greenhouse and this cat walked past him into the greenhouse with not the slightest reaction from Ollie. I'll check with them.

We have a number of drinking bowls around the garden for the wildlife (including two that are made bee and wasp friendly) and the main bowl only gets its water changed every third day (but topped up every day). Cat's seem to ignore the water on the first day and would rather drink from dirty plant saucers. I guess they don't like chlorine.

On Tuesday we thought Ollie looked dead and he was trying to keep out of the sun under a conifer. He was very limp and Mrs Shiney picked him up with no trouble (not happened before) and brought him indoors into the air-con in the lounge. He drank some water and just flopped down in front of the bowl. After a while he perked up, looked round nervously, then explored and then promptly vanished under an armchair (took us quite a while to find him as the chair has leather right down to the floor and he was sitting on top of the electric footrest raising machinery). I had phoned his humans when we took him in and they picked him up when they got home from work. He has been friendly since then.

They are beautiful cats Shiney and it looks like they know each other or they just ignore each other.

Lovely furries. We get an occasional stray ... Munch rushes in and Van screams his head off declaring it is his property. :cat-kittyandsmiley:

I understand they are female, it's to do with their genetics. You can get male ones but they are very rare and I believe they are sterile.
I've had two beautiful ones in the past.

I believe they are males @Logan It's something to do with the X and Y chromosomes that determine their sex and also carry the colour genes.

My daughter has a totally ginger female - I was midwife when she gave birth to 4 kittens....2 ginger boys, 2 tabby girls. The vet said it's about 70% / 30% male / female gingers in real life.
