And in addition to all of that, I also bought some leek, radish and tomato seedlings. Moving some stuff around in the shed afterward, I once again tripped over my lawnmower... the lawnmower and me had a major falling out this week (again) to the point that when trying to cut the grass, my language was seriously Scottish...

It is a 'Murray' one that I got a few years ago - they are apparently the electrical sub-brand of Briggs and Stratton; initially, it was quite good, but now... not so much. I've tried a new blade which helped a bit, but the whole thing is a bit of a nightmare to be honest - even putting the grass collection box on the back is an absolute headache, so I have had enough. I went on to see what was available, and bagged a Bosch Advanced-Rotak 750 on sale for just over £200, so it would have been rude not to. An unplanned expense, but one that will likely save me being evicted for neighbours complaining about my foul language.

Goodness, @Fat Controller, whoever was behind you in the till queue must have been dismayed! I have never seen a Dicentra White Diamonds. Will look out for one of those. That Rhododendron looks bursting with vitality.

It was incredibly busy when we got to the till, so I was concerned, but there were another two tills open thankfully. Until last year, I've done mostly annuals in my garden, but I really am not keeping up with it any more, so admitted to myself that I need to move to trees, shrubs and perennials.

Russ, I remember you buying a big haul last year. You have some wonderful shrubs there. Did you rob a bank first? ;) My garden is basically all evergreen and perennial ... pots can give bursts of colour. You take care digging all those holes, or do you have help lined up? I look forward to seeing pics.

Indeed, last year was a lot of bare root stuff - this is round 2 and hopefully the last, barring maybe replacing some of the more tender stuff. I have help on hand thankfully, so all good there. I can still get tore in when I need to, but it was becoming a chore rather than a pleasure and that, with me, is dangerous as I would end up simply turning my back on it.

You will be able to plant the "legs" in the ground or plant pots. No frosts for you to worry about. I have left some in the ground over winter as I'm too lazy to dig them up. Not much coming up yet, but that maybe because it's so dry. I need to give them a good water. Or the slugs have had the tops off. Do you get slugs?

Me too! And when my turn comes and I place two bedding plugs on the counter, total cost £3.40, the assistant looks at me as though I am some sort of cheapskate … which I am! :blue thumb:

Thank you for responding.I planted them over the last two days in four pots. I wet them first. Three had shoots. I will photograph as they develop. Exciting not knowing what they are Slugs are not common but we are in rain season (more than in many years) and I found one yesterday on an old pot so it went sailing into the orchard.

If you get lots of shoots from one tuber you can cut some off to propagate more plants!

Two of the "legs" (I guess baby tubers) had fallen off so I planted them too. Some had 8 or more little ones attached.
