Love the double colour combo on the front far left, @Victoria!

I have never succeeded in keeping a dianthus alive which is a shame as I love the scent.

Not for me but replacing some hedging up our lane, I can completely recommend this yew hedging from hopes grove nurseries. Excellent healthy plants with great root systems

Nothing to show yet … but I have put in an order for 4 interesting pelargoniums from the Fibrex site. So … :fingers crossed:.

          Roll on their March dispatch.

@Victoria Lewisias? I'm surprised they succeed in your conditions - I thought they needed more alpine cold. Amazing!

Caroline, I had one years ago and it only survived a couple of years. This purchase was stupidity I think but I loved the bright colours and they were only 2,30 Euros so I thought I would give it a go again. The cottage is too dark indoors to have plants inside so I may dot them where the Azaleas,Gardenia and Cokeus live in the shadows. You know, sometimes you have to do these things! :rolleyespink:

You certainly do! Hope over experience is a necessary trait for any gardener.

Speaking of which, further to my disappointment when my little Corydalis arrived, 10 days of TLC later and I am quietly optimistic. There is still a chance it is not an Elata. The slightly purplish tinge to one of the leaves is unexpected if it is, but nothing ventured …

This is another big no-no with me! Tried it in plant form and failed ... also with seed! I wish you continued success.

I’m not very successful with them either, @Victoria! The “easiest” of the blue ones seems to be Calycosa, which I have kept for three yrs now. Something of a record for me in the Corydalis dept.

Leucothoe "Curly Red", lit up by the first sunbeam to hit my back patio this year. Destined for a shadier place though. It has the common name of "Dog Hobble".

Dianthus varieties can be either annual, biennial or perennial. This may account for unforeseen losses perhaps ?

True … plus possibly not enough sun and slugs were also to blame. The grey-leaved ones are more slug resistant, in my experience.

Our Morrisons had it in autumn, they don't care about plants :( , and when it started to wilt without any water and some other plants went crispy, they reduced them. I have it overwintering in the greenhouse. Love it.
