They don't bloom and in fact live outside in The Jungle Room but have been brought into The Baffa/Garden Room whilst things were being shifted around.

My Ginseng Ficus bonsai (which I have inadvertently called F benjamina in the past but found the label) which I got in 2005 and named Luis (after Luis Figo) got leggy so cut it back ...

Calathea rufibarba which lost its leaves in the Winter has come back nicely ...

@Esoxlucius Guzmania 'Hope' and Aechmea 'Blue Rain' nice.
Were there any care instructions, like keeping the central 'vase' topped up with water?

Spot on with your ID's. These two were very much impulse buys. As soon as I saw them both I wanted them but had no idea of care, other than that Bromeliads are very hardy, so what can go wrong, lol.

I researched them and there were a few hints I picked up on, such as keeping the central 'vase' topped up, which is what I do. I spray them regularly and the room they are in has a 400 gallon fish tank in there, so humidity is pretty good.

I didn't realise that the 'mother' plant dies once flowering is over. I was momentarily disappointed, but then discovered that the mother pushes up young 'pups' in her death throes, which keeps the plant going.

And sure enough, when I looked closely at the 'guzmania' I could see three young shoots protruding out from the base. But none on the 'blue rain' as of yet.

Do you allow the mother to completely wilt away, or can you separate the pups well before that? Does the mother always die or are there instances when she'll come back?
