You may well be right. I do know that the seed has got to be fresh.
I cut mine back to a couple of leaves to overwinter it. When I moved (last April) I had to get rid of it (due to space issues), but it was actively back in growth. I regret it a little now.

Thanks! The individual flowers don't last long, only a week or so if I'm lucky but they keep pushing out one after another. Apparently it can continue like this for several years!

Not strictly a houseplant, but the flower stem on one of my Sprekelia formosissima had emerged whilst they were still in their winter storage box (wrapped up in bubble wrap with all the other borderline bulbs), so I bought it indoors. DSC_0218.jpg

As you can see, it's not a perfect bloom, but that is probably down to the sudden temperature change that it experienced..............

The second flower spike on my BoP continues to grow.................

Exacum affine... notoriously difficult to get hold of, and keep alive, but mines doing ok at the moment.. its going outside in the border in summer.. it has a little bit of hardiness apparently! Has an amazing perfume too, the new flowers have a sweet perfume, whilst the older flowers smell like chocolate. DSCF3022.JPG DSCF3023.JPG

I've only ever grown that as an annual Stephen, sow the seeds early.
I'd never contemplate planting it outside.

I had a white flowered one one year, it grew bigger than the blue ones.
Not seen seed available since. Of the white one that is.
