It's H. carnosa. I used to grow bella a few years ago as well. I remember it was just as vigorous and flowered almost none stop but as it was more of a trailing plant I struggled to find a unit able place for it after a couple of years.

Yep, I guess H. bella went out of fashion with those macrame hanging pots, it definitely needed to be looked up at.
Nasty habit of dropping nectar though.

Mine wasn't too bad for that, certainly not as bad as my carnosa. Did your bella have any scent? Mine had none but I have read some are supposed to be sweet smelling.

Our Hoyas don't give us any trouble with dropping their nectar as Mrs Shiney lifts it off with her finger and eats it :dbgrtmb:. That's her sugar kick for the day! :heehee:

I eat the little sugar crystals that form on the end of the Nianiamensis "parrots",

Yes the Bella I had did have scent, it was more the kind of scent that was very subtle, and you just got a whif of it now and then.
I find, often plants only release their scent above a certain temperature, not saying that was why yours had none, but I do think growing conditions make a difference.

I think you are right. I have a couple of Orchids, a Cattleya hybrid and Dendrobium berry that only become fragrant when intense sunlight shines through my bathroom window during the early hours of the morning. Same cant be said for H. Carnosa though, that is at its most intense after midnight when just a single cluster will scent the whole house. That is way after our central heating as gone off!

Another cluster has now opened. The smell is gorgeous at a distance but gives me an instant headache if I take a close up sniff.

Just a couple of orchids that are on the windowsill in our bathroom. These are the only two in bloom at the moment although we have about a dozen.

I don't know the name of this plant and it never flowers. Although it's rather peculiar, I really like it :) . We've had it some years and bits just drop off (as in the picture).

            Jenny

All our orchids have been in the bathroom for years. Some must be at least 10 years old.

If no one ID's it on this thread I'll put it on the ID thread.
