    That's exactly what I said as the 2kg lump hammer met my hand! May have said it a tad more colourfully though.................

    Us programmers use Foobar all the time, just as a placeholder for a variable in code examples. No idea why we choose that, and we always use that spelling.

      Thanks Jenny :) Chuffed with my Cymbidium (first timer syndrome!) proof of pudding will be if it (or any of its brothers & sisters) flowers next year!

      I think I've been keeping the Amaryllis a bit warm - 3 weeks to bloom from planting!

      Crikey @Kristen! You didn't buy tiddlers did you!!! Reckon that you'll be hooked now.

      This is for @pete;
      Clerodendrum ugandense is just getting going indoors. It's about five years old now and I leave it outdoors until it has taken a couple of light frosts and then bring it indoors. Sat between the fire and the window it dumps its frosted foliage and then starts into growth again. A few weeks later it is in bloom. It gets a little leggy, but I just cut it back and use them for cuttings. I cut it back again late spring when it goes back out. Six to eight weeks later it should be in bloom again.
      If I said that these blooms are about 3 or 4% of the buds it will be no exaggeration.....................

        My one and only houseplant:
        001.JPG

        A Guzmania - it's lasted well, about 10 weeks in flower so far.

        I did have an amaryllis, which flowered for about 6 weeks. It seems to be growing new shoots already - would that be normal? I thought it wouldn't start again till next autumn.

        I can't really have houseplants at the moment. I don't have any window ledges and the house is really dark and gloomy at the front. The garden room, which is the only room that gets much sun, is currently filled with over-wintering plants and seed propagators (and all the dogs' stuff - it's also their playroom!). Once the greenhouse is up I'm hoping I can transfer all those in there and maybe think of making the garden room a bit more attractive with house plants. I'm loving Kristen's orchids and have a wishlist a mile long of other plants I'dalso love to have

          I have never seen a Guzmania with those colours, a very unusual combination. I presume the flowers have not yet emerged between the bracts.

          My indoor hyacinths have only just started to flower - they look a little stunted!

            Wow, a lovely display on your window ledge. I bet those 'cinths perfume the whole house,

            Just a nice gentle fragrance Jenny - not too heady. Planted them late November, didn't want to miss them flowering whilst away over Christmas,. Hence their stunted growth.
