That's fantastic Pete. I watered one less this winter and I think it may have survived for the first time.

I was going to ask Woo this question as he has them and has today posted pics. However, the thread appears to be closed, says its not open for replies????

Anyway, I have two cactus, one is huge plant at least 15 years old, had it so long I can't actually remember how old it is. The other is a piece broken off that I slung on top of my Rubber plant pot and forgot about, so its rooted itself in there:). It needs to be potted up. I read that its best to repot xmas cactus after they have finished blooming, which is what I have done in previous years, and never when plant is blooming. My big plant is blooming at the moment. Woo states he is going to repot his two which are beginning to bloom. Who is correct??

Hi @luciusmaximus I myself prefere to repot mine after flowering in the spring time and when the greenhouse temperatures are warm enough to help root growth.

If you move your plant now that it is in full bloom the flowers are likely to drop off as they don’t like to be moved when in bud and the same might apply to when they are in flower also but that is just my own opinion and others might do theirs differently:smile:

PS,I have found the thread and it also says on the right hand side that I don’t have enough privileges to reply here so would love to know where I can buy some to answer @wiseowl post:scratch:

That's what it said for me too and also that the thread is not open for further replies. I've never repotted mine when its been flowering but as Woo said he was going to I wondered if I'd missed something.

                      Hi @Kandy , Hi @luciusmaximus , Hi @wiseowl

The Christmas Cactus has definite growing cycles throughout the year.

After flowering through to April is the dormant season so it shouldnt't be watered ( just a sprinkle every month or so to stop the compost going hard and dry ).

From April to September is the growing season so normal watering, feeding etc.

End of September to start of November is the second dormant period ( needed to initiate bud growth ).

November until the end of flowering is back to normal watering/feeding etc.

The best time to pot-on or take cuttings is when the plant is just waking up and starting to put on new growth i.e. late Spring or early Summer.

It's not advised to pot-on during flowering as serious bud drop will occur.
Also, it's not advised to pot-on after flowering as the plant goes dormant and so will just be sitting in it's new pot/compost and doing nothing and this can encourage rot.

Good morning first my apologies for the thread being closed it was down to yours truly (I forgot to tick a box  it is now open;) I have repotted mine before as with Roses I find that "Rules are meant to guide you not bind you,so in Woos world anything goes:heehee: the way I do it is to lift the plant out of its old pot ,put it in to its new pot already containing new compost so that the new compost completely surrounds and covers the old root ball just like a glove.

ps I have now moved and merged these threads together:phew:
