They rooted very easily in water.

The Aescynanthus is lovely Longk. There are some wonderful and often little known plants in the Gesneriad family.

Thanks Longk. I have had a good look through that site - my mind is still boggling. Though you can see quite a similarity in the flowers across nearly all the species.

I find Phals like this time of year, might be temperature might be light levels, but they always seem to flower well after the long days and when it gets cooler.

It could be easy to get carried away with them, especially after a good look through that site!
This is a must find though - Kohleria warszewiczii.

Does that (and the rest of the bunch) have scaley rhizomes like Achimenes? Grew them as a kid ... "harvested" loads of rhizomes at the end of the season. Kohleria flowers look a lot more fancy [than Achimenes] :blue thumb:

Excellent! I did grow a few Achimenes a couple of years ago, but I didn't find them very exciting - probably just growing something - ANYTHING! - when Iw as a kid was a novelty, I'm a bit more fussy about time-spent bringing sufficient rewards now - old, and set in my ways ... :old: but these look much more rewarding so I'll add them to my (ever growing!) list to keep an eye out for :)

I had a look on Dibley's site for Kohleria when you posted that and found nothing (nothing except some delivery of houseplants, rather like Interflora) so I assumed they had no plants to offer at this time of year.

Today I stumbled upon their 2012/13 [paper] Winter catalogue and that has a whole page of Kohleria, including K. warscewieczii [I reckon that has to be a mis-spelling in their catalogue] ... and they are offering K. Sunshine as a freebie on large orders - which PeterS said he thought he had (an unlabelled purchase :) )

The colour printing in Dibleys catalogue is dreadful, so I'll have to cross my fingers and hope they have the plants, and some better quality photos, on their website soon - or they call me for better advice on running their website!! they should have the plants up all the time, even if not available to purchase, so prospective buyers can add them to a wishlist, or "email when back in stock" - or even just add them to their browser favourites. The original Website URL http://www.dibleys.com/dibleys-shop/Kohleria.html is just giving a 404 Error which can't be good for business either :(

You're bad Kristen! Found a PDF catalogue. Looks like the plastic will be getting hammered again!

Well found ... definitely better quality pictures in that PDF than the dead-tree catalogue I have in hand. A few of those not in my paper catalogue, but they may well be offered on the web of course. Still £3.00 (for 3 ~ 5 corms) which is pretty good - a-pound-a-plant, and if they are anything like Achimenes they will produce plenty of corms for second year?
