I forgot to reply to you @dowtish - weight is always a factor for anything you need to lift, isn't it? I've rarely been in TKMaxx, so that's great that you got those.

I shouldn't have asked about the Iris @Perki - I went and looked at the I. variegata, and then saw a lovely sibirica on F. Gracy's site - 'Purplelicious' and they have bare roots on offer...

I got this neat little set of folding plant shelves for £12 at the car boot sale today. I bought a set half the size from Lidl last year and they were £20 and were a pig to construct!

Also picked up 3 hardback gardening books for 50p each.

 

I wish I knew, half a greenhouse of salvias, "Hotlips", "Amistad", "Black and Blue" etc I pick the one pot that stands out as different, no label and another unknown salvia in the bottom. Six pounds so no complaints from me. Checkout commented "oh that's different, oh no label never mind", another customer told me the small one was probably "Hot Lips".
I suspect neither of them are particularly hardy and won't enjoy my damp winters so I think definitely greenhouse over winter and take cuttings. The furry one will probably stay in the greenhouse until summer comes at least.
I'll have a look through some reference books and online. If I find out I'll post it here.
I do have a history of this with nurseries picking out the plant that interests me and it having no label, generally the owner can help, if they're around.

 

The second one definitely isn't Hot Lips @NigelJ , but l've no idea what it is.
If you have no luck with the books etc, you could try contacting William Dyson at Dyson's salvias, he is a real expert when it come to salvia id and has helped me in the past

We are so lucky down here in Cornwall. Myrtle grows into 20-30ft trees and look wonderful when in full flower. My daughter has an inherited one in her garden which I envy. Hers is around 15ft tall. Mine is a diddy baby, still in a pot, must plant it out.

 

Had a small spree this morning ...

Two Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, Adonicus Orange and Adonicus Dark (in one pot so one price ) by Graff Breeders (I have others by them), a small Hydrangea (blue with hint of Lilac)), 4 Portulaca, one small Pelargonium Peltatum and three terracotta pots.

 

Hello Brenda catching up on this thread could it be 'Paula Jane' only we purchased 2 very similar on our last SM visit , I want to have a go at growing my own 'standards' again so it had lots of new growth and was the bush variety they recommend . Check it out it might be.

 

Oh, what a simply beautiful hydrangea, @Victoria. I would have been tempted too, though keeping it blue (which I would be determined to do) would then cause me much fretting.

 

I am not sure how long I can keep it. I had a curly purple one on 2012 but think it sadly only lived a year or so.

 

i've finally got around to listing what I bought at the plant fair - not far enough along for photos but good things to come:

Rose Astronomia; Salvias belle de Loire and Mulberry Jam; Thalictrum Blue Stockings but I can't find that online so it's either very new or a mis-labelled Black Stockings. Gorgeous either way with its dark stems.

I was given a Celtis Australis yesterday. Leftover from a friend's plant swap on Sunday and destined for her compost heap so I'll give it a home and hope the birds enjoy its fruits.

 

I'm no expert but it looks like one that's been growing outside in my parents' garden in Sheffield for many years, "Barbara", which is a hardy variety.
On the other hand there are so many varieties of fuchsia and a lot of them look similar to each other. Maybe take some cuttings later in the year to overwinter indoors, in case it's a tender one.

 

I tipped it out and had a close look and separated out the flowering part, only to discover that although it appeared to be a different plant, but it seems to have been only the one plant as I had to cut the "different part off the other plant. So I now have two pots one with the part in flower and with a sprawling habit and the other pot with the larger erect fury leaves. Time will tell.

 

Last week I bought and installed a small pond - it seemed a good time with all the rain forecast! It's a preformed one, the Bermuda Cove, and only about 50 litres. So I then needed plants, of course. I had no idea what to buy so I ordered a small pond pack online - the seller's own choice of 4 different plants, plus the baskets to plant them up in. The plants arrived today along with the aquatic compost I ordered from a different seller. Of course I ordered far too big a bag and it weighs an absolute ton, but I'm sure I'll find
some uses for the leftovers. I will have to decant it all into small bags in order to move it though!
Anyway I've just been outside planting them up and left them in a tub of water until I am ready to put them in the pond. Here is the list of what I received, I think they look quite exciting. All the plants appear healthy and are a good size.
