Today received seeds from Alpine Garden Society and from Chiltern Seeds; so I now have about 40 packets of seeds to sow. If any germinate and make it to flowering then pictures will appear here.

Ordered from Parkers. 3 kalmia varieties I've been after, 3 highlander delphiniums and 6 hostas. Oh and some free lily bulbs. Came very quickly and look pretty decent.
Also got seed from Premier direct. Needed some parsley - I have enough seed now to create a parsley lawn! When not buying F1 hybrids, their packets are very generous.

We rarely buy any plants as we have too much trouble trying to restrict the plants in the garden from spreading like wildfire. :rolleyespink:

Friends come round to dig plants up if they have a space to fill (under supervision), and we dig up lots of plants and take them to a charity garden centre. It still doesn't keep things under control so a friend who is a landscape gardener comes and digs up plants and he gets them cheaply and the money goes to charity.

Mrs Shiney is always being given plants and cuttings that either get planted or sold for charity. If we, or their original owner, can't identify the plants they are given the name of the person that gave them to us. Even when we have subsequently worked out what they are they still keep the name of that person. :heehee:

I can't do photos but have just received 3 mixed rhubarb corms from Carbeth plants. There are no care instructions in the box. The corms are all about 15cm long, I have left them in the wrapping they were delivered in for the moment. At this size, should they be planted into pots to grow on before going out into the garden? Also....the beds I intend to grow them in are very waterlogged at the moment. I need to unpack the plants but am unsure what to do with them, so would be grateful for advice.

I think they'd be better planted in pots for now, in case they dry out or something. You can plant them in the ground when the conditions are better.
Anyway 15 cm seems very small for rhubarb, so maybe it would be a good idea to grow them on in pots until they are bigger. Someone else will know better than me about that.

I have tried in the past to grow rhubarb permanently in pots, but it wasn't very successful.

Thank you, Michael Hewett. They are now settling into pots. It is still raining here, the lawn is soooo squelchy and beds / borders have many puddles on them. Rhubarb pots are on some outside shelving so that the rain can water them in. I shall keep an eye on them and put in beds when roots looking well established....if it ever stops raining.

Bought some Sparaxis bulbs for the patio pots.

Excuse the pic but my phone is charging.

Having had a really poor year in 2022, followed by an entire year 'off' from gardening last year, my garden is in a right old mess. The reality is that I was continuing to go with annuals and then knocking myself daft each year to try and keep up with it... and that was all the harder given my health/disabilities now.

We've just had a week off work and have made the decision to flip the garden over to more perennials, spurred on by a visit to the garden centre where we bought quite a haul...

In addition, we also got a fair sized Clematis Armandii Snowfall (in memory of our departed friend) and three bush roses.

This morning, we've ordered three more clematis:

Some of which will also help fill baskets and troughs around the front and back of the house.

We didn't need any plants (just had a landscape gardener friend come and fill his open bed truck with plants from our garden as they just run wild everywhere) but needed some jute string whilst out shopping.

Homebase had some and I need at least 300m. Their 300m ball was £10 and their 110m ball was £2.75. A really tough decision  :roflol:
