I'm assuming that the turf was in the back as it's a well known ploy to double the value of an Espace!!!!

It's a shame as I really like modern Renaults. They just have an awful reputation. On the whole they're reliable, but when they do go wrong they can cost a fortune to sort out.

Owned ours (a Grand Espace) for donkeys years, would have bought another except no longer available. With the seats out it was cavernous (although not as big as its predecessor the Chrysler Grand Voyager. Alhambra, replacement, is tiny by comparison. Handy to be able to fold seats down, rather than have to take them out, but floor-to-ceiling height is pathetic. And I am finding that I can't get much in lengthwise either :(

                    Comfy 7-seater though ...

One other advantage - it doesn't suffer bonkers depreciation!

10p from a car-boot - 1958 Mr. Digwell book. - Those were the days! - liberal use of Sodium Chlorate, Red Lead, DDT, Mercuric Chloride etc!! - Unlike the other newspaper gardener of the era, Adam - Mr Digwell seems to spend almost as much time in the pub as the garden.

A MacAllister MLM1300 lawn mower from B&Q. It was a toss up between the MacAllister and the Bosch Rotak 340, but they only had two left. One looked like it had been opened and returned and there was an elderly gentleman I'd been chatting to by the lawnmowers that said he'd spent a week looking for one, so I let him have it. It's good in that it cuts really well and much shorter than my previous Flymo, so less cutting. BUT it ain't half heavy (7kg more than the Bosch) and my back's knackered from pushing it.

I also bought a new Flexon Professional Commercial Grade hose from Costco, which comes with a lifetime guarantee so if it's rubbish it'll be going back.

Picked up a couple of tree stakes/ties and a couple of bags of ericaceous compost.

I've been after a Henchman Platform for some time.

The platform starts at 5' and extends up to 7' - the legs have holes secured by pins with locking split-pins). The feet are attached via a knuckle joint, so sit flush on the ground, even if uneven, and they unscrew for exact adjustment to ground levels.

Then there is a 3' extension - so platform is then extendable up to 10'.

Then there is a clip on set of trolley wheels, so you tilt the platform towards you until it rests on the wheels, manoeuvre it to the next position you want to work, and then stand it back upright again. Simples!

Slight sang!! has been the price - new they are £785 :( and my miserly bids on eBay have been trumped ... but at last I got lucky :) What's more it has only been used once a year to cut a hedge, so is as good as new.

I spent the day training and pruning my Pleach Hedge, and compared to dangling precariously off a step ladder it is just fantastic. It has such a sturdy stance that it is entirely possible to put my full weight against the safety rail and reach as far as I can, which will be great for cutting the tops of our tall hedges.

                            Wheels attached, but no extension

                            Extension added (feet not extended)

                              Looks brilliant :blue thumb:

Last year I looked for a cheaper version of that ladder. It was available but they no longer made the wheels!

My problem would be storage of the ladder. What I really need is one of the ladders that folds into an upside down U shape with a long platform across the top so that I can walk along and cut the top of the hedge. Most manufacturers have stopped making those as well - or don't make them with wheels.
