You must have a lot of patience to propagate them Kristen. If I only had one bulb I'd plant it and hope for the best......in a good few years!

The ones I have, which have not yet gone under the knife!, have doubled up since last year ... so they may double each year. So 4x every 2-3 years, but twin-scaling them will give 8x every 2-3 years. After a decade it starts to make a big difference ... assuming they don't all die on my operating table!

I just see it as another propagation method / technique (although perhaps aided and abetted by the fact that, in my Yooth, I worked in a Tissue Culture lab, so I'm not too shy about the sterilisation and process in general. In fact I quite fancy having a go at kitchen-table-top Tissue Culture - I've even bought and read a book about it :) )

A much more sensible bet, IMHO, would be to stick with the bog standard ones ... they can be had for £70 a thousand, so very quick to naturalise a decent sized woodland area. Even the doubles are only £70 for 500. But I get carried away easily!

They're a very good price, but I can't see my back coping with planting a thousand! :) I prefer the more unusual ones but haven't got the cash flow for their price tags unfortunately.

Eurobulbs have several "moderately unusual" at very keen prices. Lady Beatrix Stanley for example 5 for £20 (although that particular one is sold out). Ones like Elwesii (which I have known of for years, but not known its name - very early, and decent strapping like leaves) is 50 for £17. (I've had several thousand Bluebells off them too , so happy to recommend them - they can't count! got loads more than the sticker-price indicated :) )

Thanks Kristen. :dbgrtmb: I won't be buying this year now, but I'll be having a look around and thinking for next year. :)

Bought myself some bare root bits last weekend. 1 Mountain Ash, 1 Dog Rose, 1 Purple Berberis and a Goat Willow

and then this weekend I picked up a Standard Olive bush for a fiver as clearance stock from my local homebase.

I had to pop into the garden centre earlier to get some more seed compost, and well - its fatal isn't it?

Came out with three bags of seed compost, and a handful of seed packets:
              - Spring onion (White Lisbon)
              - Beetroot (baby type) F1 Action
              - Brussels Sprouts F1 Brigitte
              - Celeriac Monarch
              - Carrot Baby Type Ideal
              - Chilli Pepper Hungarian Hot Wax

And I saw something that I reckon at least one of will be in the back of my car by this time tomorrow:

Popped into Wilkos in Weymouth and saw a new trolly full of Bromeliads, there were the usual three varieties, Neoregelia, Guzmania and Vreisia all a fiver each but what stood out was one variegated Guzmania, I had to have it!

I resisted @Jenny namaste - Mrs liked it too, but the more I thought about it, the more I realised we didn't really have anywhere to put it.

I bought these from my Market Gardening friend when at Nantwich.

24 pots of Daffs for £20, and 12 pots of Primrose for a £5:snork:
