Not very interesting got 300 7cm pots and 10 trays of 40 cell seed trays for £10.
But was very tempted walking past my local market stall man with this Phoenix Roebelenii for £20 but I resisted

That P roebelinii was a real bargain Mowgley, normally around £35/40.
I had to pass on one at that price at a market stall in Poole last year, I already have two.

You're right, Spruce!! But every year when the potted Daffs become available from my friend I buy them and they get planted in the pots within the frame of where my Wife rests. She always loved the beginnings of Spring and Daffs so I try to emulate that for her with the potted Daffs. When they've finished I take them back home, rest them in their pots and then when the leaves have gone I take them out of the pots and dry them out for planting in the garden in late Winter. I think she would have approved.

                Seed Sowing Compost ...

I normally just have a little bag - 10L of Westland John Innes Seed Compost (its basically Loam and Sand - drains beautifully, falls off the roots when I prick out - whereas I find that MPC causes roots to grow into "lumps" and then as a consequence more roots break during pricking out)

Anyways ... instead of small seed trays this year I'm using quite a lot of 9CM pots - as I am growing things that are very slow to grow, so will stay in the pot for a whole year without pricking out / transplanting. So I need MORE :) than usual

Local Garden Centre not selling Westland any more ... switched to J Arthur Bowers (J.I. Seed Compost). Its probably fine, but I quite liked my Westland ...

The J.A.B. JI Seed Compost was 3 x 15L for £15 ... hang about, how much is the small pack? £3.99 - blimey, I should have been buying big bags before now!

I was pretty sure I had seen Westland there not long ago so I went for a wander and ... sure enough ... right down the end was the remains of a pallet of Westland J.I. Seed Compost.

30L bags reduced to £2.49 :dbgrtmb:

If you want some, and have a Garden Centre Group (formerly Wyevales) near you then it may be worth a look. All their Westland John Innes formulations were similarly reduced

I've always thought of that as a weed - probably mistakenly! I grew A. elegans and A. ringens. Assuming that they wanted to come in for the winter I planted them growing up soem Brugs (in plunged pots) so that they came in, with the Brugs, for the winter. But the Brugs have been kept pretty dry, so will be interesting to see if the Aristolochia make a comeback this year.

Compared to A. elegans and A. ringens the flowers of A. clematits look a bit insignificant?

Don't use if for Traditional Medicine - apparently responsible for more deaths than perhaps any other plant (because it's flower shape caused people to assume it had suitable medicinal properties :( )
