They also had Rhodies for £4.99. They looked good to my untrained eye..............

Went to a garden centre today. Came back with Buddleia Pixie White. I really like the look of it in a white pot.

Not come across babyplants.co.uk before, people on here speak highly of Fuchsias from www.otherfellow.co.uk - although they don't have any of the varieties you mentioned ... or their search doesn't work!!

I have used those before Kristen but as you say, they didn't have the varieties I mentioned.

Managed to check out so should be arriving Monday.

Been to B&Q to buy some hanging baskets and slow release ericaceous feed. Ended up buying another six plug Fuchsias (6 for a fiver), a couple of trailing Verbena, grass seed and three Dahlia 'Crazy Love' (from Morrisons).

                Garden Centre closing down sale:

                8" Pots 5p each.
                10" Pots 10p
                Stewart window boxes £1
                18 pack canes £1
                Ring culture 'pots' 75p/pack
                Horticultural sand £1
                JI Compost £1
Half trays pack of 10 £1 (see note)
                Franchi seeds 50p pkt
                T&M Seeds 75% off
                Fungicides 75% off
Window box brackets (sturdy painted steel) 40p pair
                Etc., etc.

I rarely sow a whole tray with all the same variety of seeds, and even if I do I'll sow in 2 half trays sitting in a full size tray so I can prick out half a tray at a time, and consolidate all the half trays into full size ones to maximise use of greenhouse space.

My Rhododendron is out of stock and not likely to be in until Autumn :dunno:

Will have to try and find it elsewhere - Millais do it but they are out of stock too. Oh well, might be one to buy in Autumn for next year.

4 boxes in the hall arrived today from Buckingham Nurseries. Can't remember what I ordered now ... although, typically for them, they have short shipped a couple of items "out of stock" and as I had placed my orders with multiple suppliers at the same time, based on price, size and availability, I don't have an (affordable) means of buying the missing items elsewhere. In this day and age its a disappointment that they don't have their website hooked up to their stock computer to only sell what they have in stock. (Its happened to me on several (large-ish) orders over the last couple of years with them, so not an isolated incidence, and the structure of the way that such an out-of-stock message is bolted-on to the Order Confirmation, with a list of plants, means it is easy to miss, and sometimes it has required me to make a positive response for the order to be shipped at all - which could easily be missed). Seems to me that hey are better at growing and selling plants at a good price and quality than they are at managing a stock control system!

Got some fruit trees from Deacons and they are short shipping too <Sigh!> although in their case they say that is because the plants are not still dormant - which is indeed conceivable this early-season year.

I was late back from Birmingham today and so had to change into "casual" gear and go straight out for the Local Gardening Club meeting. There was a presentation by a Ron Kirkham who used to be the Chairman of the Clematis Society......and of course the subject was Clematis which was "right up my street!!!". Ron showed some slides of Clematis that made me drool but since I now have exactly 100 in the ground in the garden at the moment and 4 in pots waiting to be be planted I had to tell myself "No":nonofinger::snork: Anyway, after the presentation we got talking and I ended up buying 10 packets of Clematis seeds for £10 and I let him choose what he thought would be best. So I got seeds for:

Clematis kuripoensis, Clematis intricata mixture, Clematis repens, Clematis fusca var. umbrosa, Clematis NZ evergreen mixture, Clematis fusca Integrifolia hybrids, Clematis jouiniana mixture, Clematis inftegrifolia dwarf types, Clematis serratifolia, and lastly Clematis fusca.

I also gleaned from Ron the best ways of sowing the Clematis and one interesting way is "boil in the bag" using freezer bags with zips half filled with a mixture of slightly damp Vermiculite and Clematis seeds. According to Ron the Clematis Society members are having good success using that method.:coffee::snork:
