I ordered a white buddleia from West Country Nurseries, which arrived today. I bought my grasses from then too. Good service so far and well packed plants :)

I try to keep out of Wyvale, as I've never got out of there without spending around fifty quid.
Mind you if it were Bents. it'd be nearer a hundred quid.

Anyway, my wife had fifteen quid's worth of vouchers, a birthday present from one of her friends. Her birthday was in September!

She bought an orchid with them, I bought two replacement climbers to replace two Mayleen that hadn't survived the winter.

      and an Avalanche.

As we were passing some more displays, she chucked a couple of tubs of primulas into my trolley, so as I suspected, even without the orchid, not much change out of fifty quid.

Two coffees and two teacakes in the café, so more "unscheduled expense," and we were only out for an hour.

I always hang on to receipts from Wyvale as they will refund your money if something dies, or doesn't flower, in a reasonable length of time.

For some reason my viburnum is growing at a funny angle. I guess it has been at the back of a display and not seen too much sun. I knew that when I bought it. Also the pot was split. I guess that is why it was reduced. I’m assuming that it will eventually grow straight. Plants usually grow straight don’t they? (Rhetorical question)

We've three viburnums in our front garden, they've been there for a couple of decades, we prune them right back every now and again, getting rid of the old wood.

I guess they do more or less as they like. Here we're encouraging new growth to take over from old wood.

I'm in the habit of training plants by pulling them in the direction I want them to grow, but only a bit at a time, shortening the wires every couple of months.
I trained this acer to form an even "mushroom shape" with a ring of canes with a wire around it and wires attached to individual branches.

          P1010015.JPG

It took a year before I was able to remove the canes and the wires. But several years down the line, "it's now perfectly formed," after starting off lop-sided.

I think established viburnums might be untrainable.
But you might have more luck with a young plant.

Viburnum tinus. It's evergreen and blooms over winter. This one has a crooked stem
