Pic below of the "potscape" on my patio which includes some recent additions. The little palm (chamaerops humilis) I bought from a local garden centre last week and will I hope be a good permanent addition-it is hardy and slow-growing. The big cordyline was rescued last month from the pavement - a neighbour had put it out for the binmen! Fortunately I had a suitably-sized pot going spare. There are pink geraniums from Lidl and sweet peas from Asda, both looking as if they need more sun. The spider plant is one of a succession-I keep one in a pot on the bathroom windowsill, pot up the babies, and use them to replace the original when that goes outside in the spring. Got the idea after seeing them used very successfully to edge summer bedding in the Mall, outside Buck House. The succulents are permanent, the one with all the yellow flowers is echeveria prolifica. Some sedums purchased from Lidl last month are thriving in the ground, next to the pond. Pink petals from my neighbour's flowering cherry sprinkled overall!

Has anyone seen small cordyline/phormiums going cheap anywhere? Looking for a couple to go in a couple of troughs, only want small ones but dont want to get ripped off.

Not sure cordylines or phormiums generally are suitable for troughs. Phormium Jack Spratt is relatively small but still needs a container of its own I think. Still a fairly vigorous plant, here anyway!
How about libertia taupo, ophiopogon nigrescens or carex Buchanii? :)

Bought a blue marguerite daisy from hardware store today. So pretty and only £2.00. Had a look at grasses. Saw a lemon fescue, lovely, zingy lime yellow colour. Very tempted but label says it fades to grey green in summer, not too sure about that :dunno: :heehee:

Sounds like festuca Golden Toupee Lucius. If so then no, it does not lose that yellow colour in summer. Maybe not quite so vibrant but still an attractive yellow :). Must be in full sun though

@Verdun you are correct, it is a golden tuopee and one is currently sitting on my patio waiting to be planted out tomorrow :snorky: :snorky:. I also sneked a Blue Hyssop and a Heartease into my trolley, priced at £1.39 each.

Ooooo, you "sneaked" a couple of bargains too lucius ....impressive :)

Planted out a couple of divided sanguisorbas, miscanthus and moved others and cut 2 lawns. However, more painting for a while and, in my haste, upturned a can of gloss paint over the floor. Luckily it missed passage carpet by a margin of a few centimetres. Took a while to remove paint so all ok but it's my big fault, viz., impatience; trying to do everything at once and at speed. :noidea:

Sunpatiens/New Guinea Busy Lizzie plants from Morrisons, packs of 4 @ £2/pack, only 50p/plant and they're a decent size, not like the tiny plugs (misleadingly called jumbo plugs) from the likes of T&M which might actually be more expensive after adding on for P&P.

The cell sizes are 60 x 75mm so they're going into 90mm dia. pots in a polytunnel for a few weeks.
