My purchase is not on a par with you guys, but I went to the cemetry and bought 36 daffodils for £1. Their perfume is filling my home and reminding me that Spring is not that far away. I'm much more cheerful now.

 

wow, didn't know Cleome developed into stemmed plant.. that looks impressive.. I thought they were annuals? (or is it just they're annuals in our climate)?

 

I prefer the white one, personally (Got mine from Jungle Seeds ...)

 

I think they are annuals Stephen. I did read, on one site, that they can be overwintered - but they never would for me, even when kept frost free.

One hot year they were wonderful, but in cooler years they have been poor. But they should be better in your climate.

Once, in the past, mine were badly eaten by cabbage white caterpillars - they are members of the cabbage family,

 

They are annuals Stephen. That photo was from 2010 as I recall and I was disappointed with them that year. It was in the shade from about 12.30/1pm. I've had trunks of up to 30mm in a good summer with something like thirty flower stems on a single plant. They need space!

One thing that I did notice when I grew them every year was that they dislike being crowded - give them space and they seem to romp away.

They are absolute caviare to the cabbage white!

Me too. Helen Campbell seeds are available from all good GCs.

 

They seem to resemble similar characteristics to Cannabis (not talking of the leaf shape but that's coincidental)

 

Today I bought:-

• 1 x passion flower (Violacea)
• 1 x clematis - Scartho Gem
• 1 x clematis - Elsa Spath
• 1 x clemats - Rouge Cardinall

All from Morrisons @ £2 each

Then went to B&Q to get compost and saw some "Cosmos" planters (battered and unloved) from £6 down to £1.50 - so I bought 3. My reasoning is, even if they do not produce the flowers, it would cost me £1.50 for that pot anyway so: win-win!

Went to Hodsock Priory today to see the snowdrops, boy was it cold out there but there was a bonfire in the wood to warm up by and a huge heated tent selling hot drinks, bacon butties and cakes so had a lovely morning followed by fish and chips at a nearby pub, couldn't resist buying a couple of double pink hellebores and two cyclamen coum a pale pink and a white to go with the darker pink I already have thats just started seeding around nicely

Well with the sunshine going to my head lol, popped into local garden centre this afternoon .Didn't plan on getting anything because did not have much money on me. However managed to get 2 hebes and 4 cyclamen, which are the autumn flowering ones so won't do anything till later in the year. But at £1 for each plant, I'm not bothered

 

Tomato seeds. 10 packets of different varieties arrived from Nicky's Nursery today. Excitement

They very kindly included a Free Gift with my seeds. Guess what it was?
