Dahlias were from Costco. They had a nice selection :blue thumb:

They seem to be a good size too.

I've just treated myself to some shelving for the greenhouse - plenty strong enough for my seed trays, which I will be wanting to get started anytime soon (as soon as the weather warms up a bit)

    Cheap too

Even better, they are being delivered to my door on Tuesday - - by the time I drove to Staines, and then paid to park, I'd have spent the £3.95 delivery charge anyway, and that is not to mention finding the time to do it.

I will, of course, post photos once I have them built.

Ok, can't "show" you because my battery is recharging, but today I bought ...

5x day lily "Pixie Parasol" (reduced to £1.65 each)
          1x cistus "Alan Fradd"
          1x deutzia scabra codsall pink
          2x Gold Crest cypress
          20 Montbretia "Lucifer" bulbs

When I got home, Mr Mum was awake so I dragged him out with me to Home Bargains so I could get some more of their "log" edging :heehee:

Can I ask how much the log edging was Mum? I am thinking of getting some to wrap around my growbags, just to make them a little more pleasing on the eye (and to make it less obvious that they are growbags)

            Also known as "Rock Rose"

Great plant, hope you enjoy it during late May to the end of June or maybe just into July if your luckly, its a shame that these don't flower for longer

I clip mine back (to keep it in shape) after it has flowered, best to take cuttings from new wood (really easy to do, 90% of mine have taken) as the plant only seems to live for about ten years or so.

Morrisions are now selling Plug Plants , so brought a 6 pack of Fuchsia Paula Jane, they come in a blister pack with Gel in the bottom of the pack (guess this is to retain the moisture in the cell packs) just check what your buying as some of the packs had dead plants............Guess you get what you pay for & mine were a little on the small side and in fact they are so small you could only just about call them a plug plant ..lol

These were only £2 for a 6 pack and with the wife's discount it brings it down to £1.80....even better lol

Going to get up at 6am to pot them up before I go to work. IMG_4576.JPG IMG_4577.JPG

                Home Bargains

There is a rigid type, 1 mtr length and the two end pieces are longer with a pointed end to push into the ground to secure it: £2.99 each (saw same in a garden centre marked up at £8.99!)

The other is the "roll", so more flexible, and 1.5 mtrs: £2.99 each

My plan is: use the rigid ones each end and attach the flexible one inbetween them (slipping the metal loop over the spiked edges) So, 2 rigid plus one roll should give me a total lenght of 3.5mtrs; if I need/want longer, I'll continue with a rigid/roll alternates to get the lengths I need :)

I'll take some photo's of the plants and edging a little later.

Hi FC, if you can get hold of any scrap wood (I used old pallets) you could knock up something like this to hide the grow-bags:

Thanks Mum - alex-adam, they are the deeper, reusable sort of growbags, so the log roll would more suited to them; like you, the only price I had seen them at was £8.99 - so I must try and find my nearest Home Bargains.

                      Cheers :)

                        Bargain alert!

My shelves were delivered today, and I have just taken a few minutes to assemble:

                        IMAG0202.jpg

I've popped a seed tray and the aloe vera plant on there just to give a scale of size.

There is string supplied in along with them, that is supposedly to tie the mesh shelves onto the frame, however I am going to get some cable ties for the job, as I reckon I can get them tighter and tidier. They are light, yet reasonably sturdy and stable (as long as you are sensible about what you ask of them), and the mesh will help with watering and drainage. Each of the plastic end trims has three holes, with only two of them occupied by the poles supplied (front and back on each shelf) - it would be entirely feasible to add extra strength and support by adding a further pole under the centre of each shelf (dowel, or maybe even copper pipe would be ideal).

Best bit is, there are two of these in each box - so I've ended up with four of them which is ideal :dancy:
