Local Councils sometime subsidise them ... so worth a look, but I doubt Council ones would be cheaper than that (if the Aldi one is a decent sized Dalek, for example)

 

I believe the Aldi one are 220 ltrs (because I was tempted but haven't spoken to Mr M about it yet )

 

Ordered a Japanese Maple 'Osakazuki' Tuesday night and it is being delivered today.
Also ordered a 70cm pot for my dwarf Lilac and some smaller pots for some Daphnes.

My Easter purchases will mainly be shedloads of compost to pot up all my recent purchases

 

I've just checked my local council ...

• 220ltr bin @ £16 (buy one, get one half price): 2 = £24
• 330ltr bin @ £19 (buy one, get on half price): 2 = £28.50
• Delivery: £5.49 per order ( £29.49 and £33.99 respectively)
• Aldi: 220ltr bin @ £20 x 2 = £40

Seems straight forward to me to get 660ltrs for £33.99 is the better bargain.

*Unless* - you are restricted to how many you can purchase through a council subsidy, in which case, the Aldi ones would be a great back up if you've reached your limit with council ones.

 

Council is the way to go then if you want more than one

I only wanted one bin though, so £20 was good value.

I wanted a base for it as I wanted to site it on the paving at the side of the house, but couldn't find one online. Glad I didn't now as it's forced me to find somewhere on soil to site it, which is better

 

No doubt that varies but when I got mine it was 2-per-household, so I bought two Still planning to build a nice wooden system out of old pallets ... still not got around to it ... that must be nearly 5 years now!

I do have a pallet system on the go; I also have one darlek from when I had a small garden. Both are used for general composting.

I put a 'faux' order through on the website (admittedly didn't get as far as checkout) with 4 as the quantity; seemed to accept it up to that point, so may go back and do a genuine one.

Since getting Ozzy, we now have another issue to contend with in the garden; those green, sinkable, "compost" kits designed for dog waste? Less than useless in our case. So, I was researching composting dog waste - hence considering getting more darlek style to cope with a seperate system. Obviously that compost can only be used on non-edibles, but, I think it will be worth trying.

 

Hook it up to the household loos too - like the Old Days? Get more composted material that way ...

Actually, now you come to mention it .... I do have a copy of Seymour's Self Sufficiency and it does give instructions on how to do just that! But, methinks Mr Mum would call that "a step too far"

 

Went back to Costco to buy five more of the smaller planters for my DA roses.

 

Just ordered couple of new varieties of hosta...new yellow and nice blue.
Planted my latest hellebore yesterday....exciting to get delivered and perfectly packed. Flowers and buds all intact

 

Thought I deserved a treat so bought 3 bulbs off Tropaeolum tuberosum "Ken Aslet"

Spruce I'm surprised your Bee isn't trained to catch them! I just took a photo of it almost ready to devour the fly but now can't download the photo.

 

Bought this date palm icluding the metallic pot for £20 from BQ - didn't intend to buy it but thought it was good value!

Also took delivery on Saturday of this bamboo plant from gardeningbargains.com (£9.99) and 5 easy fill hanging baskets (also £9.99) with free delivery! Just need something to fill them with now! Like the look of either calibrachoa or petunia surfina, can anybody tell me why these seem to be so much more expensive than other petunias?
