I bought a couple of Acer Palmatum 'seconds' from mailordertrees for half price - £14.99 for 10L pots :blue thumb: Pot luck on what type of Acers they are but for just under £40 including delivery for two decent sized ones, I don't mind. I've seen some in 3L pots which cost more than that.

These ones are to go in the border rather than in tubs (which is where the plants go which I want to take with me when I move).

I've recently bought a couple of full priced ones from there - an Orange Dream in a 10L pot for £29.99 and an Osakazuki for £34.99 which was supposed to be a 10L but was actually a larger 15L one :snork:

Even the full priced ones were relatively cheap from what I could see on other sites, where they were up to more than double that price in some cases.

I saw those (red trays?) and I think they were about £5 or £6 for 6 plants the same size I got from Aldi @ £1.99 for 6 plants. I went back the day after posting and bought another couple of packs (so 42 plants in total for £13.93), but the day after that they'd all gone and I suspected they'd skipped them. I've seen hundreds and hundreds of plants go to waste there this year.

I bought a couple of netting hoops (£5.99 each from Aldi) this week to protect my strawberry bed. Last year I got in a real tangle with netting so I'm hoping these will make it easier.
They also had plug plants of bedding which were very good value at £1.79 for ten healthy plants.

Aldi have a strict "Health and Safety" policy of not watering their plant stock at all in case a member of staff or the public slips and injures themselves. It means that most of the time the plants look as though they are suffering and the loss from people not buying them in that state, plus the loss from the non watering, must be high. I like Aldi and they have many good products but I think they're wrong to pursue not watering their plant stock.......many other retailers water their stock, why not Aldi.:dunno::snork:

My latest purchase was a mistake - must have had an "elderly" moment I think ...

Was looking for some trailing begonia seedlings - noticed they had an offer on Outdoor bloom Chrysanths - I assumed hardy - offer was buy two get one free pack. Not realising this was already included in the price shown, I duly ordered 3 - ended up with 9 packs - 45 plants in total - (well 44 as one was broken) - Ohhhh Dear :oopss:

They are good size and well-rooted but at £1 each I would expect no less

Not sure if they are actually hardy though - doesnt say on Unwins website - although I have found homes for them, I will keep most and grow some large pots in case they don't come back next year and I can overwinter them - might try cuttings too

Went to homebase on way home from work. I managed to get some half depth bricks at 39p per brick for edging my border which is cheaper than that log roll stuff. also got a big tray of mixed daisies reduced to £1.50 and 5 forget me nots for 50p. Cant believe the price of plants this year. I saw a chilli plant £7 and a fatsia japonica £10! when u grow from seed u forget how much things cost :rolleyespink:

Here are the Acer 'seconds' I bought half price. I thought they would be less than a metre tall like the 'first quality' ones. However, they are as tall as my flippin' garage roof

Bit misshapen but I have just the place for them in the garden.

Lots of nice looking tomato & pepper plants in the Swindon store... well, they look nice now but they have also been outside all night & we had a heavy frost so I wouldnt give them much chance of being all that nice in a day or two..

Last years B&Q treefern appears to have survived the winter with little or no damage (and only a bit of fleece stuffed in the crown for protection)

                  - I will tidy up in that corner & find space for the two new ones nearby so they can talk to each other tomorrow.

Made the most of the B&Q bogof offer and brought 14 plants:

Poppy, Marguerite, Japonica, Euryops, Patio rose, 2x Saxifrage, Hellebore, Scabious and a few others all for just under £30, thats less then £2.14 per plant :blue thumb:

The patio Rose was £5.98 if brought on its own :)
