I bought a (non telescopic) spray lance from Aldi the other day - can't remember how much it was but I never realised how useful it would be. It's great for the large containerised plants cos you can get right in under them to water.

 

Got this Trachy for £35 on the weekend

 

Bought a plastic bowl for the kitchen sink.

With the temperature forecast to increase this week, we'll do our bit for water conservation by saving water from washing vegetables and washing dishes to use on moisture loving plants. Well worth the £2 investment I reckon

 

I can never make the maths of saving water work :(

Let's assume your bowl holds 5L; we pay a little over £1 per cu.m. ...

... you'll have to carry your bowl of water out to your plants 400 times to break even. Once a day for 6 sunny months of the year will be ...

... a payback in a little over two years

On that basis the government should subsidise washing up bowls!!

 

Went to B & Q for 6 more bags m/p compost - I had already said - no more plants - and I didnt buy any !!! They had loads that were dead/unwatered/frazzled all stacked up in a basket Bought a new rose for the hose - got a Verve one with fittings - cheaper than the hoselock - and they only ever last a couple of years in my garden. Was happy to see a "cultivator" - for £7.95 had to have it - bought one of these over 10 years ago - and after all this time it is getting a bit rusty but the new one seems to have been made better/stronger

Here's a pic of the new one and the old one that is bolted together half way up and at the handle (came in pieces) - it is these joints that are getting a bit rickety - but the new one is one piece - and I had to try it out as soon as I got it home - good for digging out the ground elder especially now to tackle the front garden

I've got one similar to that sumbody - a Garden Claw Gold which I've had for years and it's great for turning over the soil and mixing in compost

Doesn't stop me doing it though Planning to install a huge rainwater tank this year, which will save me about 1/3rd of my water rates ... and never pay back!

 

Kristen's calculations don't take into account the value of the smug self-satisfaction one feels in making a small contribution towards saving the planet.

Then there's the intangible benefit of the exercise involved in carrying a heavy bowl of water down the garden and pouring it into the flower border (which probably wouldn't otherwise be watered as our watering efforts are generally reserved for containers and edibles). We've saved £££s on gym membership over the years

Yup, meter, but I don't find it expensive. However, if I had "copious" rain water stored I would no doubt use more on the garden than I currently do ...

Thinking of a 50,000L tank and piping it to store rainwater from all roofs / downpipes.

 

Not really a purchase ... but a freebie from recycle
Needs a bit of a clean - but these are £90 new (all but a penny)
Soon find somewhere for this ...

 

No mains-drains here, so don't think that applies??

(I also don't pay sewerage, which for water rates is based on usage - so increase your irrigation, on a metered supply, and you pay more "sewerage" too ...)
