I think they have used body language on me, perfectly steady one minute, and as soon as you step on one without paying attention they tipple over a little bit and chuck you of!!!

Come on then Nut, which programme gives you that. I was getting upset there thinking you had it but I didn't - I have XP Media too. Would think it would be one of the security programmes but which one?

Sounds like a good idea, although as tweaky said if people want to get it they can.

    cheers

Just to try to clarify things a bit more.

When your hard drive is being read, it is read from the outside to the inside...just like the needle playing a record...if you still remember those.

Things that you delete from the Recycle Bin still stay on the disc. They are proceeded with a number 1 (one) so the head reading your hard drive passes those and looks for the next space on the disk.

If you use the 'Shred' facility...it changes the 1 to a Zero (nought) so that the head can overwrite those spaces with new data.

So in physical terms, it can speed up your puter a bit when you are saving things etc.

If any technophobes read this, then I do know that this isn't the complete answer, but I feel it will suffice for this topic.:thumb:

You'll have got another program on your PC, a shredder program basically it completely erases it rather than tells the hard drive it can write over it.

I don't know how many times it'll pass over as I've not had one of these programs on my PC myself but know someone who has (they're a bit paranoid that a hacker will see what they've deleted!) but in a nut shell thats basically what the program does. Personally I don't think you need a shredder especially if you're like me and wait until the HDD has broken before replacing it, lol, anything anyone got of my computer would be very boring, lol.
