I hope the windbreak doesn't blow away- is it inside the sheep wire? A lot of hard work there.

I thought i would just write and let everyone know that last year i asked about what i could grow in the western isles which could take a battering from gale force winds and driving salt laden rain and after collecting all the info from this site i gave it a go!!!!
a very big THANK YOU TO ALL who helped in my challenge to establish shrubs on Barra.
if anybody needs info on windy gardens then feel free to ask for advice. last year i did not have a clue as to what to plant but after help from this site and trial and error i am over the moon with the results and it will only get better as the years go by.
the side nearest next doors house has now been planted with escallonia rubra macrantha and escallonia apple blossom as the tinus which was there failed. the problem winds as i found out is not the northerly or easterly it is south westerly wind which are full of salt from the atlantic and cause wind burn.
once again THANK YOU ALL FOR ALL YOUR HELP OVER THE Last year

    [IMG] Hey Barra,
Good to hear from you & see the garden this year..!!! [IMG] It is looking so good.. All the hard work is paying off. I don't think many plants can cope with the salt spray in the wind like that, so if you only lost the Tinus then that is not bad going... [IMG] :D the wind break mesh seems to be working well still too. Look forward to seeing it next year when it is looking really established. Well done Barra a lovely little garden now [IMG]

This is one of those threads I've missed.
Barra you have done a great job there, that really is an exposed location.

Tremendous job well done Barra - I for one would have shirked at tackling all that digging and shaping of the beds especially in your weather
conditions - look forward to next years' pictures.
