I started using mouthwash but found out it completely took away any advantage of using a sensitive toothpaste.

I was told by my dentist not to use mouthwash after brushing, for the same reason as not rinsing, it washes away the toothpaste fluoride.

I was under the impression that sensitive toothpaste had some kind of filler in it that stopped up minute holes that cause the sensitivity.

I thought fluoride was something different, but I could be wrong.

I just googled it pete, the type I use (Oral-B Pro-Expert) active ingredient is stannous fluoride, I think it does blocks the pores in your teeth (which makes them sensitive) and also strengthens them.

@gks I'd read about not rinsing your mouth after brushing with a fluorite paste some months before my dentist started to prescribe it for me. I didn't know the part about Peppermint relaxing the sphincter muscle,
I always brush my teeth about an hour before going to sleep. I don't know if the peppermint in the paste makes any difference but since I've been using the fluorite paste for about 4/5 months now I haven't noticed my symptoms have got worse - or better.

Mine is a bit more serious, I have, Barrett's oesophagus, I actually go for another endoscopy in 2 weeks so they can take samples. I have been okay lately, but my Mrs says my breathing during night is still very hoarse though.

I practically had dinner twice yesterday, first between 9 & 10 at our daughter's and then some time during the night when it all came rushing back to my throat! That was a bad few minutes!

We had dinner very much later than at home and a whole lot more as well! We are no longer accustomed to so much so late!

Once again we had dinner very much later than at home and a whole lot more as well! We are no longer accustomed to so much so late! Our daughter was so occupied with so many things that she started dinner very late & eventually we didn't get to sit down at the table till 8pm! Then we had to get through it & be back home for 10pm as our other son was going away for the last week of the year with his family & they had asked us to look after their daughter's hamster. When we hadn't shown any signs of life he called us to see if we were back home! We had to tell him we had just sat down to dinner!

I didn't have a repeat of the episode of the previous night but we both felt extremely uncomfortable when we went to bed. I'd been worried that I might have a repeat but fortunately it didn't happen.

I actually had my endoscopy on Wednesday the 4th January, after my initial appointment was cancelled.
Today the consultant phoned me with results from the biopsy, there has been no improvement to my Barrett's Oesophagus but they have found another small area where there is low grading of the cells.

Apparently 3 doctors have seen the camera images and the results of the biopsy and they now recommend that the low grade cells should be burnt out as alternatives to my medication are unlikely to improve my condition.
They hope to have an appointment at Newcastle hospital in the next 3/4 weeks for another endoscopy as they want to do another biopsy. Then hopefully an appointment will be made soon after for the low grade cells to be removed.
