Nathan, there are a couple of things about tuning a guitar that you may find helpful.

First of all, on fitting a complete set of new strings, bring the 3rd and 4th strings up to pitch, then the 5th,2nd,6th and 1st. That way, you avoid uneven stress on the neck.

Second, when you have brought a string up to pitch, tune it a bit higher (about 1/2 a tone)then loosen it off until the tuner reads correctly. The reason for this is that as you play it, the string will go a little flat (down in pitch) unless it has been stretched.

If you live within easy access to Braintree and you want to pop over, I will swop guitar tips for gardening tips!

I've visited thsi site :- http://guitar.about.com/library/weekly/aa071200j.htm .... Just to give me something to look through, but I would not imagine it is better than a proper tutor ....... Trux, I may take you up on your offer [IMG]

Hope you remembered to cut those finger nails, Nathan! :D

Yes, they'll hurt - but after a little while you won't feel a thing, honest! [IMG]

Very fond of the old Bluegrass these days
There is a festival every year at the Ulster American Folk Park in Omagh Co. Tyrone which attracts players from all over the world. Great stuff
My own music started with playing lead guitar in a 'Shadows' style group which later developed in to one of the Irish Showbands in the sixties
Actually played as supporting act to the Rolling Stones in 1964. Mick Jagger hasn't stopped talking about it since (hehehehehe)
Moved on to Irish folk and nowadays just play at home for fun at parties
We had an enjoyable night re-opening McCoubrey's pub in August [IMG]

Just thought I would bring this back up .... Having had a few lessons very local to me, I am now playing 'bits' of 'wonderful tonight' , 'Rebel Rouser' and 'Sweet child o' mine'

It's getting the chord changes fluidly that is doing my head in :D .

I bought a lovely Electro Acoustic about a month ago, a Crafter FX 550 EQ :-

    Same as here : http://www.crafterguitars.com/gallery_acoustic/fx550eq_rs.php

    And looks like this [IMG]
