    Your right Annemieke there are lots of other methods, but most of these will end in the
    death of the slug.............I got about another 20 tonight using the Weed Wand method, least
    its environmentally friendly as there are no poisons so safe for the birds....they just need
    to check the sell by date on cooked foods :smile:

      my veggies have all been obliterated by slugs, not got much growing this year at all :(
      ive set up some beer traps and find them full every morning ... ive been chucking the dead slugs on the bird table, hope the alcohol doesn't affect the birds!??

      I find that slug collars are the only foolproof method. I sowed lettuce in one collar, and later planted them out in a collar each. None got eaten, but it is a bit of an investment. Also saves a lot of trouble emptying and refilling the pubs. For pic see the top of this page. You can buy the collars from Garden Organic. We even keep our cheese in them in the corridor where the copper lining around the window has not had the promised result!

        i have discovered that the magpies that are nesting in the trees at the side of our garden are eating the dead slugs out of the beer traps that ive put near the strawberry plants ... and having a nibble at the strawberries while they are there!!!!!
        ... bl##dy nerve of the damned things ... :snork::snork::snork:
