Does anyone have any experience with using Nematodes for eradicating slugs? They're obliterating my dahlias but don't want to use pellets as I have cats, and don't want birds to be affected by them.

I don't have any experience with nematodes, so can't help there but I did have relatives in Norfolk who used to put upturned pots near their plants. The slugs and snails would use them as shelters, which they then emptied into their recycling bin for the council to collect.

As Alex, I use them every year to protect my potato crop. I'll be applying them in about a weeks time.

It works for me as I have slug damage free potatoes when I lift them.

            Steve...:)

I think I shall have to get some. Are they available from garden centres, or online?

I've never had slug damaged potato tubers, just the top growth, this year.
              It won't stop raining:frown:

I used slug pellets when we were invaded a few years ago, this year I don't see so many but we have a friendly hedgehog who calls. He does seem more interested in the cats biscuits though, caught in the act on the wildlife cam :pcthwack:

Don't forget about these other usual suspects.

It was only due to the selfless actions of the blue Slug Killer pellets that these gastropod degenerates were even apprehended.

You will be glad to hear that death sentences were handed down to this vicious gang for their heinous crimes of: wanton destruction of gardeners' property, possession of dangerous weapons (lungworm and shell blades), slime graffiti and, most serious of all, not finishing a meal before starting another (just criminal!).

Four of the gang faced execution by "birds" while Keyser Söze number 5, the unrepentant ringleader responsible for orchestrating the recent rein of terror, faced death by "size eights".

On Sunday, 26th June 2016 at 3pm, this gang was executed.

May their bodies return to the earth what they stole, and may they be reincarnated as brassicas.

                Amen.

I have a major slug problem this year & it's driving me potty! :gaah:The dam slugs are so big & there's so many of them :gaah:I've been out & I have been killing them because I'm at the end of my tether! The hens gobble up the small slugs & all the snails but they aren't interested in the big fat ones . I had been throwing them into the field at the back of our house (that's where they came from) but a friend told me that they would just come back! :hate-shocked:.
My uncle has been using nematode & he says it's brilliant, I might invest in some at the weekend! :blue thumb: Anything is worth a try :paladin:

You could get the ultimate revenge with the snails and eat them, that way you'd get your veg back at the same time lol.

Seem to remember Hugh Fearnley Whatever cooking some slugs, they have to be starved if I recall snail and same applies slugs, after being fed a clean diet, so no "waste" is consumed, seem to recall he thought they were vile even with his cooking skills.
