@HarryS I was only with them less than the quarter actually, they went bust and I didn't fancy being with the new company (had problems with previous company with my meter not showing a display for readings too so didn't really want to commit to a DD) but my new company has quoted me at £59 a month DD for leccy and just paid the first month and given a few reading so fingers crossed it should be all ok now.

I agree with Pete all it does is make you look closer at how you use it. Better to be a smart person than a smart meter :-)

As for previous bills nice to see what some pay but it really needs a level playing field ..detached, semi, terraced, insulated etc etc to be comparative.

For what its worth I use approx 16000 kWH of gas and 2500 kWh of elec and yearly bill approx £900 (OVO), that's a 4 bed detached in Central Scotland. That is probably down from around £1400 5 years ago. Over that period I have monitored usage and changed from elec shower to gas from combi boiler and the main lights from halogen to LED. House is occupied 24/7. but heating goes off at 10.30 most nights.

I monitor gas/elec monthly using a spreadsheet to calculate costs. Since I started to look at things more closely my house Ins, car Ins and TV package have all gone down in recent years.

Well, my Lounge never drops below 67f during the day when I'm at home, and in the evening tops 71f, while my Kitchen even with the door ajar for the :cat-kittyandsmiley: to come in and out on their garden patrols is always around 61f.. When I'm out at work the inside of the House is always around 65f.:dunno::snorky:. The House has had all the cavity walls filled, the loft has about 18 inches of insulation and it's also sheltered by several houses to the West.:snorky:

Well, I use LED Strip lighting instead of fluorescent lighting, all my other lights are low energy and I don't have anything running on standby [TV, computer etc] when not in use [more for safety reasons than economics]. I have balanced flue gas wall heaters in all bedrooms, passages, a "Heat Machine" balanced flue Gas fire in the lounge which is probably only off for about 4 hours a day. I did consider Central Heating but other neighbour's experiences of it [leaks, pump failure, blockages, lack of specific control] persuaded me to ignore the marketing blurb. So the House is really warm all the time and I can control each rooms temperature as I want.:dunno::snorky:

And I thought I was Nesh, Linz,!!:heehee: I love the heat but find 70f inside to be warm enough, anything after that starts to feel uncomfortable. I've been in peoples houses where the inside temperature was 80f plus and they've become so used to it that they're actually shivering.:snorky:

My heating is on from 5.30 am till 8 am then comes on again at 4pm till 10pm in the week, at weekends I use it depending on the weather and what I am doing at this time of the year.
Just had my monthly metered bill of £156 for gas and elec. for Jan.
Expect similar for Feb and Mar.

What's your normal comfortable temperature using your heating in the House, Pete??

What about you, Linz, what's the normal temperature in your House??

Interesting, I also use LEDs (spot lights) in the kitchen and low energy bulbs elsewhere, most things are knocked off at the switch too as this has been drummed in since small. I do have a big watt security light out the back that the cats like to walk past and knock on and an electric fire that gets switched on for half hour to help warm things up mind...
Those wall heaters sound good! :dbgrtmb: I have a 9 year old combi central heating.. it's done me well so far, one leak and one lot of batteries for the thermostat.. but with upstairs getting heated first and with my poor walls (bisf house with external wall insulation) it doesn't help things.

Yep that's me :snork: currently sitting in 74f and still cold!

My temp around the house tends to be the same in most rooms, a bit cooler in the hall way and upstairs, downstairs its usually about 75F to be comfortable sitting around without loads of jumpers on, I get enough of that during the day.

I am running two 2 kw heaters in the greenhouses as well.

Should add two rads in the conservatory that hemorrhages heat.

They are Baxi Heaters that were put in in the 90's and while my neighbour, who's a Gas Fitter, has inspected them every year they've never needed any kind of repair.
The "Heat Machine" gas fire is made by Matchless and is really efficient getting the Lounge warm, even if freezing conditions, in less that 10 minutes.........so it works for me. My cat's like the warmth as they will lie on their backs with their feet in the air...........sign of a contented, warm, cat:heehee::cat-kittyandsmiley::snorky:

That will add to the bill for sure.:snorky:

Usually, like I am now, I'm lounging around in just Jeans and T-shirt and find my room temperatures more than comfortable. Two years in Aden, 6 years in Kenya, and various spells in other "warm" places should have made me more sensitive to lower temperatures, and I hate the cold!! But the balance of temperature I have in the House now works well for me........and the:cat-kittyandsmiley::snorky:

I think a lot of my problem is, at this time of the year, I get completely frozen all day, some days.
Often I dont get warm until I wake up the next morning, and then get frozen again.

Wouldn't life be great if we never had winter.
