I think "fixed" is a word you can use in different contexts, Peter. Our energy costs are loaded with different taxes and too much of a monopoly for too few firms.

We once had an electricity monitor which was quite interesting when you moved it from one room to another. Never did find out where that disappeared to

The fact remains, you shouldn't have to do that kind of thing, the rip off energy companies should charge a fair price for energy, based on how much they pay for it.

Their pricing should not be based on how much we can screw the customers for.

I think there are now one or two not for profit and council owned energy providers, although I haven't seen them at the top of the list on USwitch

I was talking to a mate at work today about Smart meters, he said his wife gave the energy company the go ahead to fit one.
Apparently someone came round and moved the gas meter from the back of the cupboard to right at the front near the door, now he cant put all the stuff back in the cupboard that used to live there.:biggrin:
He wasn't happy, that makes 10 reasons for not wanting a smart meter.

If you're on a fixed tariff, you're right, they can't charge you more. Not until the contract expires.

Once they've got smart meters in homes, they can then restrict the tariffs available, you can bet your life they'll try to charge you more for peak energy consumption if they can get away with it.

It's not a lot different to day/night meters for leccy, which are a bit cumbersome, you can hear it click over on ours at midnight. But with a smart meter, the possibilities are endless.

You should see me when I'm in court. The judge has told me a number of times that I couldn't get away with what I'm saying if I was in the legal profession. :snorky: I once referred to the very nice female, that the other side brought as a witness, as a call girl! When their lawyer objected I, quite rightly, explained that she's the person representing their call centre and she is a young female. Therefore 'call girl' seems the appropriate nomenclature. :heehee: I managed to keep an innocent and blank look on my face when told what the normal meaning of the term refers to. :roflol:

@shiney I am reminded of A P Herbert's "Misleading Cases" - Black and White TV series from the 1960s, you are the Roy Dotrice character:

Ahhh, they don't make shows like that any more - tremendous fun and great character actors.
