    Ziggy you said

    "Bore Da,Shwd ych chi.""

    and Clare replied:
    "ty bach cyhoeddus"

    this is what it means according to the first Welsh translator I found on google:

    Ziggy: "Morning Good Shwd you are being you"

    Clare: "he covers hook public"

    :scratch::rotfl:

    :rotfl::hehe:

    "Prease to fasten safety belt"

    Uncanny, thats exactly what we meant :rotfl:

    Welsh doesn't fit into most translation tools & often seems backwards to us.

    :rotfl: Yes, those translators are rubbish and seem to struggle with Cymraeg more than most. I think it's because Welsh words are tricky things which change and mutate like the weather. :) Mind you, I suppose 'ty bach' (loo) is a bit slangy. I once told a pub full of Welshmen that I lived in a ty bach, thinking it just meant 'small house'. They were impressed. 'Cyhoeddus' means 'public' and you see it on a lot of signs - 'llwybr cyhoeddus' is 'public footpath'. Public loos are 'toiledau'. The gents is 'dynion' and the ladies is 'merched'. So there we are, John, you can now say good morning (bore da) and find the loo in Welsh.

    Cold here but no snow yet. Hope it doesn't reach us. We generally get a blast in January or February but not in November.

    Ziggy,
    I have sent of an urgent e-mail to the Minister of shovels to assist me with diverting this snow...after all, what the heck do I pay my rates for?
    I have had words with the piddly Clio to get him to behave in the cold weather and told him to get a grip with his rubber feet.

    With some luck and a following wind, I might just have my garage back so I can put MY car in there for the first time in my life. :-) At least I won't have to scrape the windscreen every morning then...I'll just have to shovel the snow with the Ministry's shovel. :-)

    The first little sprinkling of that wretched white stuff arrived here today :grn:
    Not a big fall to lie under your feet, just those tiny little flakes that only happen when it's perishing.
    I love to see the snow on the hills but hate it under my feet or my wheels.
    I hope it's not going to be a winter like last year - but it's looking like it.:(

    Well, it's all white out there now.
    Not thick - just enough to be a skating rink in the morning.
    I don't need to worry as I don't have to go anywhere in the morning.
    I've had my days of scraping the windscreen at 6.30.
    But I still think of the people who have to do it.

    It's little thin tyres got a much better grip than the bigger cars with fat tyres (like Mrs JWK's) The only thing better were the 4X4s. :thumb:

    Well, it snowed plenty here last evening and when I was up in the night it was still snowing and still this morning when I got up! I reckon we have about 5" now.

    Then around lunch time some sun came out and the top layer melted so everything was covered with a nice layer of wet slush. Then the sun disappeared, the temperature fell and now it's snowing again! No doubt it will freeze tonight and cover everything with black ice!

    I have work next week, Tues, Wed and Thurs. It's about 30 miles north of Newcastle off the A1. Lunch time news showed the A1 around the Angel of the North was a skating rink and down to about one lane!

    No way am I driving to work next week if it stays like this. I spoke to my boss about my phobia. I work as a freelance OH nurse and they have a contract with the firm to supply OH nurses. If I don't turn up it won't bode good for the contract. So they are talking about hiring a taxi to take me to work! Not happy about that either, really, I don't care to be out in these conditions either! But if I don't work, I don't get paid.

    Think I'm going to give up working in the winter!
